I fully support the petition. The science of man-made global warming is far from settled and the scheme is ridiculous anyway. Tackle pollution but in a more sensible form.

We can help save the environment by simply growing more trees. This would be far more productive and would actually have a positive effect on the planet. Surely science supports the fact that trees use carbon dioxide, replenishes both oxygen in the air and also the fertility of the soil.

The ETS will be destructive to our economy with no real benefit to the planet.

Can we please use the KISS (keep it simple stupid) principle. Just grow more trees, shrubs, grasses etc etc.

I think all supporters of Ian Plimer and Bob Carter should read the reviews of Plimer's book and also assess how their peers regard them. The human signature (hot spot in the upper atmosphere near equator) is not there - despite 10s of billions wasted looking for it, and the world is cooling despite CO2 increasing. On every time scale in the geological record Temperature variation PRECEDED CO2 variation by approximately 1000 years - both up and down.

The COP15 treaty is a direct attack on Australia's national sovereignty and an obscene impost on every Australian tax payer. We do not want this "Emissions Trading Scheme" and we do not want you to sign a treaty which it appears will have the effect of shovelling billions of unassigned dollars to undecided, uncosted, unvalidated projects in nations not known for being reliable with regards to their democracy, accountability or honesty; and which may have deleterious effects on Australian sovereignty. In addition, it will open a futures trading market that is dependent on Government interference and mandates of the sort that helped bring us the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, and will bring us another when the fervor surrounding "global warming" collapses (as eventually it must).


There are better ways of dealing with "carbon pollution", including the wholehearted development of nuclear, tidal, ocean-thermal and other technologies. It is time Parliament grasped the nettle and built something concrete that will be of definite value to future generations. We have a limited oil reserve to think about in the future; and the sooner this is addressed, the better. It will fix the "carbon pollution problem" (whose "science" is daily being shown up as increasingly close to "dogma" or "faith") at the same time.

I do not support an ETS. We should put a straight TAX on only the coal and petrolium cartels, after all, they were the ones that stole all the money in the first place, along with banks and 3 tiers of government. This could raise the money needed to move to sustainable power from thermal solar with natural gas supplying an interum solution.

Such conferences should held at the Central Kempsey Caravan park. Take-away dinners and counter meals would be available from nearby pubs and shops till 8pm. Cold consumption preferred. In the name of carbon economy, delegates could be lodged four to a van. I fully support Senator Joyce's stand re voting against the ETS. This is something that Australia does not need and will only become another tax burden on middle Australia, the socio-economic group that is already being squeezed into financial oblivion and cannot afford another useless tax that will do absolutely nothing to reduce any impacts of climate change.

We can only hope that world leaders will do nothing more than enjoy a pleasant bicycle ride around the charming streets of Copenhagen come December. For if they actually manage to wring out an agreement based on the current draft text of the Copenhagen climate-change treaty, the world is in for some nasty surprises. Draft text, you say? If you haven't heard about it, that's because none of our otherwise talkative political leaders have bothered to tell us what the drafters have already cobbled together for leaders to consider. And neither have the media.

Enter Lord Christopher Monckton. The former adviser to Margaret Thatcher gave an address at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota, earlier this month that made quite a splash. For the first time, the public heard about the 181 pages, dated Sept. 15, that comprise the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change뾞 rough draft of what could be signed come December.

So far there have been more than a million hits on the YouTube post of his address. It deserves millions more because Lord Monckton warns that the aim of the Copenhagen draft treaty is to set up a transnational "government" on a scale the world has never before seen.

The "scheme for the new institutional arrangement under the Convention" that starts on page 18 contains the provision for a "government." The aim is to give a new as yet unnamed U.N. body the power to directly intervene in the financial, economic, tax and environmental affairs of all the nations that sign the Copenhagen treaty.

The reason for the power grab is clear enough: Clause after complicated clause of the draft treaty requires developed countries to pay an "adaptation debt" to developing countries to supposedly support climate change mitigation. Clause 33 on page 39 says that "by 2020 the scale of financial flows to support adaptation in developing countries must be [at least $67 billion] or [in the range of $70 billion to $140 billion per year]."

And how will developed countries be slugged to provide for this financial flow to the developing world? The draft text sets out various alternatives, including option seven on page 135, which provides for "a [global] levy of 2 per cent on international financial market [monetary] transactions to Annex I Parties." Annex 1 countries are industrialized countries, which include among others the U.S., Australia, Britain and Canada.

To be sure, countries that sign international treaties always cede powers to a U.N. body responsible for implementing treaty obligations. But the difference is that this treaty appears to have been subject to unusual attempts to conceal its convoluted contents. And apart from the difficulty of trying to decipher the U.N. verbiage, there are plenty of draft clauses described as "alternatives" and "options" that should raise the ire of free and democratic countries concerned about preserving their sovereignty.

Lord Monckton himself only became aware of the extraordinary powers to be vested in this new world government when a friend found an obscure U.N. Web site and searched through several layers of hyperlinks before discovering a document that isn't even called the draft "treaty." Instead, it's labelled a "Note by the Secretariat."

Interviewed by broadcaster Alan Jones on Sydney radio Monday, Lord Monckton said "this is the first time I've ever seen any transnational treaty referring to a new body to be set up under that treaty as a 'government.' But it's the powers that are going to be given to this entirely unelected government that are so frightening." He added: "The sheer ambition of this new world government is enormous right from the start뾲hat's even before it starts accreting powers to itself in the way that these entities inevitably always do."

Critics have admonished Lord Monckton for his colorful language. He has certainly been vigorous. In his expos� of the draft Copenhagen treaty in St. Paul, he warned Americans that "in the next few weeks, unless you stop it, your president will sign your freedom, your democracy and your prosperity away forever." Yet his critics fail to deal with the substance of what he says.

Ask yourself this question: Given that our political leaders spend hundreds of hours talking about climate change and the need for a global consensus in Copenhagen, why have none of them talked openly about the details of this draft climate-change treaty? After all, the final treaty will bind signatories for years to come. What exactly are they hiding? Thanks to Lord Monckton we now know something of their plans.

Janos Pasztor, director of the Secretary-General's Climate Change Support Team, told reporters in New York Monday that with the U.S. Congress yet to pass a climate-change bill, a global climate-change treaty is now an unlikely outcome in Copenhagen. Let's hope he is right. Don't let PM Kevin Rudd get away with signing our democracy away.

I am in full support of this Petition and am totally against our Government signing the Treaty at Copenhagen. I am totally against an ETS because science has shown that global temperatures are not rising with the increased level of carbon dioxide. Previous peaks in carbon dioxide that seem to have similar peaks in temperature at about the same time have always followed the peaks in temperature not the other way round. The oceans have not been rising at the annual rates predicted and warned of by the Government. Such rises in sea levels have occurred before. We don't want taxes forced on us from outside by an unelected world government as mentioned in the Treaty to be signed at Copehagen. The taxes would not change the global temperature. I totally agree with this petition. The outright lies presented by the Prime Minister in his Lowy Institute speech on the weekend make me ashamed to be Australian. In the speech Mr Rudd labeled anyone disagreeing with him as a denier, a conservative, and a radical - all in one speech. The level of hysteria and vitriol on display was a national disgrace. His now famous line : "the debate is over" is particularly precious, coming from a politician. I can only conclude that the bill as presented must contain something that the PM doesn't want properly examined and debated. If Mr Rudd were willing to fact check he would find that there there are just 2900 IPCC scientists, of whom only 60 have specifically endorsed the claim that humans are heating the planet to dangerous levels. Other IPCC scientists say there’s no proof of this at all. Mr Rudd claimed there were 4000. The carbon debate continues, U.S. Senate Minority Report of dissenting scientists has pushed the total to over 700 skeptical international scientists. That is many times more than the number who support the IPPC report. According to Mr Rudd these people shouldn't speak. Paraphrasing Mr Rudd, they are dangerous radicals being reckless with our children's future. Instead of attacking scientists, how about proving beyond doubt a link between CO2 and climate change, Mr Rudd.

I am 91 yrs of age (I have asked my daughter to post my comments). I was born in 1918 & have seen the weather change all the time. Some years the weather is warmer & sometimes the weather is colder. I dont believe we are making the weather hotter because we use a lot of Coal etc. I have lived to see terrible droughts, floods, Cyclones, huge storms - spread out over my 91yrs. The weather has always been fickle. ETS I think is a terrible idea. I think Mr Rudd is making a big mistake. It makes me feel very sorry for younger people, Australia is such an expensive place to live, the cost of living just keeps going up & up. I don't know how families can survive today,everything is so expensive. No wonder marriages are falling apart, to much stress on the Parents to provide for their Familys. I have many elderly friends who are really struggling to survive with the cost of everything & the ETS is going to make it much harder for everyone to pay their bills & buy food, unless you are very rich. Pensioners do not have deep pockets & we have to budget carefully. I get very angry with Politicians they dont care about people anymore.

Stopping any climate change is about as likely as changing the weather - if Rudd was trying to tell people he could stop floods, cyclones, etc no one would even listen, so why do they listen to talk of trying to stop climate change (which was happening long before humans learnt to use fire - let alone the industrial revolution).

From what i have read, it seems that scientists are divided over the issue of climate change being linked to carbon emissions and any perceived global warming may just be due to natural, cyclical phenomenon. It is fact that there has been no increase in global temperatures in the last decade, despite increased carbon emissions.
Surely common sense dictates that we should not enter into any extremely costly schemes or treaty when the link is, at best, uncertain and according to many scientists just plain wrong.

It is utterly ridiculous and ludricous for the Australian Government to introduce this new TAX (in the guise of an an ETS) as it is totally unproven that it will reduce our carbon dioxide emissions by even one gram.
Additionally, if there is a global warming crisis (although it would seem that there is stilll very considerable conjecture on this matter), it is most unlikely that it is CO2 alone which is causing what might best be termed 'unusual variations' in our climate. Any scientist worth his salt will tell you that there are MANY other so-called pollutants in the atmosphere (including methane and water vapour), which have a very significant 'greenhouse effect'. But apparently we need don't need to worry about their influence nor put a tax on them...!

Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant for a start. The very idea of this is simply trading in thin air. In other words it is a tax by any other name. Carbon Credits is an outrageous scam. The secrecy around this little parley in Copenhagen is its greatest indictment. I am a pragmatic environmentalist, that has been leading by example since founding the Cloncurry Landcare Group in 1988 and have been at the leading edge of hundreds of environmental campaigns in Queensland including woody weeds, stocking rates, kangaroo management, erosion control and plant regeneration, the great artesian basin, rotational grazing, dams, aquaculture, vegetation management, climate variability, acid sulphate soils, salinity, sodicity and scalds, permaculture, agriforestry, biodynamics and food security.

It is obvious to me that we are witnessing a change in the weather patterns; so we need to get practical about meeting the challenge this poses humanity (as it presently exists).

We cannot afford to assume we know the cause of the sudden climate variability; it is likely that the impact that humanity is having on the Earth is having an impact, but i don't buy the Al Gore hypothesis that we know it's the greenhouse gases primarily. Let's hear from the numerous respected scientists whose voices are not being hear.

I am sick of politicians telling us constantly that black is white. We need public debate and referenda on something like the ETS that will have such a dramatic impact on our way of life.

I call on the Rudd Government to actually reduce carbon emissions by closing down coal-fired power stations as they build nuclear power stations ($3b each), and bring other alternate energy sources (geothermal, solar, wind etc.) online.

With just over 400 nuclear power stations world-wide, it seems odd that the country with the most uranium doesn't have even one.

Why do governments, local, state and Federal always impose taxes when they are trying to stop the use of something. e.g. Sydney Harbour tunnel in peak hour - put the cost up in peak hour.Why didn't they put the cost down out of peak hour? ETS - tax it so people do use as much? It boggles me. In business, for best impact you incentivise not punish. Could these people actually run a successful business such as our country?? Obviously not. Look at the debt already.

Do not allow this new tax.How will it help our environment by buying carbon credits from other countries eg Brazil who is destroying its rain forest to plant palm oil trees for European countries and they then can continue polluting because they have purchased carbon credits ? I object to the ETS the CPRS and the Copenhagen Treaty. We should NOT sign it. Climate change due to human activity is BAD SCIENCE and has never been proven. I support renewable energy and cleaning up pollution, not because of climate change but because it is being a good steward of our environment. We are not causing the world's climate to change through any of our pollution. I don't consider carbon and methane emissions to be polluting, neither are they causing our climate to change. What we call climate change is only the visible evidence of known solar cycles with a period of several hundred years.

There should be no carbon trading scheme. Weather patterns are becoming erratic but there is credible evidence that we are not causeing it. But as usual governments will do anything to grab a hidden tax. If the majority of the country is so worried let them go and spend the $30000 or so to solar power their house or buy an electric car but doubling the price of electricity won't make anyone stop using it. or instead of borrowing money to build school buildings and other useless projects which won't create jobs after the schemes are completed the government could of used the money to further subsidise solar or nuclear power which is proven to be safe now. Scientists who do not want to agree with this man made global warming theory
have their government funding cut.
This to me is very suspicious. Science has a right to be UNBIASED and their

I always thought that we were the clever/lucky country. The P.M. and some of his ministers have certainly disproved that in a big way. Does the Govt not know about the cycles of world climate change. An ETS imposed during the ice age would not have stopped climate change then, nor will an ETS stop climate change now.

The proposal to introduce a tax on carbon dioxide is flawed at the most fundamental level. There is no, repeat no, credible evidence that variations in atmospheric CO2 levels in any way drive climate. Australia, and the rest of the world, will suffer immense economic and political damage if the Copenhagen Treaty is signed, and legislation enacted to ostensibly control CO2 emissions.

We've only really had a proper understanding of science evolving over the past three hundred years or so. Geologists can tell us that we had an ice age ten thousand years ago, and it wansn't the first. What if all this panic over climate change turns out to be the natural turn of events that all the ETSes they can think of is not going to alter things one bit. Just let nature take its course and work out ways to adapt to the changes. To my mind the greatest current problem facing the planet is a growing overpopulation and our potable water resources. I do not support any ETS and any form of 'addressing Climate Change'. It is a mostly natural system with absolutely minimal effect from man. Reducing C02 will be very costly globally and there are many benefits of increasing atmospheric C02 concentrations. The climate is not in peril.

Mr Garnaut has prepared a mass of very impressive figues set on a false base of loose sand. He has ignored the science issues, accepted extreme doom and gloom proposals and earned himself a high profile and large sums of money. Humans contributions of CO2 to the total system may be as high as 2-2%. CO2 is 1 1/2 time heavier than oxygen and nitrogen (20% and 79% of the atmosphere) and si constantly falling out of the atmsopher and sinking into the ground and sinking into and dissolving into the oceans. This is a very large removal mechanism of CO2 which is not taken into account by the climate alarmists. Where microbiological activity has been established in soil profiles by composting and certain other fertiling activities in the agricultural industry, CO2 is actively absorbed by these processes as a form of "carbon sequestration" - which is really an unnecessary term.

Being a student for Cert IV Organic Agricultural Production (TAFE Rural Skills
Armidale NSW) I am strongly against the ETS. But that doesn't stop us
from seeking more environmentally friendly energy supplies and fuels, etc., including water conservation in soils and homes. By improving the fertility of our soils to improve animal and human health we will benefit in the long run.
Carbon sequestration in soils is not acknowledged and the proposed methane
gas tax on cattle & sheep is ridiculous. Human activities enhance natural occurring CO2 levels but it sounds like a King Canute caper to think we can
alter the climate. I've just installed a rainwater tank and connected to toilet and washing machine, the government rebates are worthwhile to consider should cover 75 % of the cost of installation? I avoid insecticides and herbicides and encourage our Governments to subsidize farmers (like in
UK) to switch to more organically based agricultural methodology. Takes about 5 years to adapt.

I oppose the proposed ETS, and regard the Copenhagen Treaty as possibly, the most contrived act ever imposed on the world. Why has so little been explained about it to the public of Australia. In a random check around the office, most had heard of the Copenhagen meeting and knew it had something to do with an ETS, but that was all. I do not think that the general public has any idea of the importance of this treaty.

The science of man-made global warming is far from settled. Let us continue to observe and research but avoid taking decisions on effects that are 50 years away and over which we may have no control. The world has adapted well over the past two hyndred years and will continue to make any necessary small changes.

NO to any ETS. After 70 years on this earth in North West NSW and Sydney it has been bloody HOT and Bloody Cold and has been for all time - If the Gov is genuinely concerned about the future of Australia's survival then devise an HONEST plan to "save the planet".

I am extremely concerned about the future of our Planet Earth but believe the new mantra of greenhouse gas being the cause of drastic change is wrong and my extensive reading supports this. Look at the root cause- Clearing of the Earth's Forests, wasteful demand, and so on. In the final analysis it is too many people wanting to live in the American style consumer society. In the 1950's there were about 2.5 billion people on Earth now there is about 7 billion. I fully endorse and approve of this petition. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. IF it is responsible for "global warming" as claimed, then why is it that global temperatures have been falling (not rising!!!) since the year 2001!
One sizable volcanic eruption (as has happened in recent history and will happen again... (i.e. Krakatoa C.1883))... and anything/everything that mankind has generated pales into insignificance!

Recall the massive problem the world HAD with the Ozone Holes/depletion, odd has this has all gone away, now that (for example) the DuPont company has made a fortune out of selling the proprietary refrigerant gas replacement for CFC's.

Everybody needs to be made aware of the full implications if this ETS was implemented. The Rudd Government definitely will NOT be enjoying decreasing unemployment if this scheme / tax is imposed on Australians. We have given away a large portion of our manufacturing base, along with some of our service industries and now the Rudd Government has it's sights on our Primary Industries. We would be crazy to allow additional TAXES to be placed on mining and agriculture.

On another note, has anyone noticed that the term "global warming" has been phased out and replaced with "climate change"? Must be because the world is actually cooling not warming, surely this should sound some alarm bells for "climate change" activists!
