Today the National Party maintained their commitment to never vote for the Alcopops tax and clearly stated their case in the Senate Chamber by putting on record that they did not support it.
They did not take the vote to a division because the votes registered against it were quite evident and had been put on the record.
The commitment given to the people of Bundaberg that we would never support a tax that could put under pressure one of the main employers in the town, Bundaberg Distillers, has been honoured.
It has also become quite evident that with the increase in the sale of Alcopops any illusion that this tax is a health measure is quite patently wrong. It is yet another Labor party tax grab.
Today we had the Labor party saying the world was going to end unless the ETS came in, merely another tax grab, and young people drink too much, so what did the Labor party propose, another tax grab. Both these measures the National Party voted against.
