“Every time I think about Mr Rudd’s 20/20 summit I wonder what ever happened to Mr Rudd’s Golden Guru’s,
I keep walking down the street in St George hoping to bump into one.”
“It’s been a year since Mr Rudd’s 20/20 summit which cost Australian taxpayers 2 Million Dollars and what have we got to show for it Mr Rudd?” The world appears decisively similar to what it looked like before apart from the finances which I must admit Mr Rudd are decisively different if not atrocious”, according to Senator Barnaby Joyce.
“Out of more than 900 ideas put forward by the 1000 participants just 9 have been identified as being remotely worth considering and of those just four even look like getting up.”
“In dealing with the problems facing Australia’s Indigenous communities, here are a few positive ideas Mr Rudd which I hope might assist you in the process.”
1. Don’t just throw the cheque book at the problem, we’ve done that before and you, yourself acknowledge that it hasn’t achieved much.
2. Insist on the removal of the Wild Rivers Legislation and other environmental legislation that hinders the development of the northern regions where Indigenous communities live.
3. Promote the growth of industry in areas where no tax is earned and very little public infrastructure dollars have been spent by cutting the tax rate, zonal taxation, therefore stimulating the economy; other countries such as Brazil have done this very successfully.
4. Implement the immediate cessation of Social Security payments to families who fail to get their kids to attend school. ‘No Child at school, no cheque in the mail’.
5. Rather than a grey ban on the availability of alcohol and pornography in problem areas have an absolute ban. I think there are healthier things for 4 year old kids to watch.
“When in doubt don’t trot out a plan, deliver a policy. Keep your decisiveness for Caucus and have your media grab after you’ve done it rather than fill the airwaves with beautiful thoughts prior to moving on to other pressing issues such as the Deniliquin Ute Rally.”
“Get the social structure right Mr Rudd. In many of these communities, it doesn’t matter how many houses you build, the problem is not with the houses it’s what’s going on inside them.”
