Today Mr Rudd has to decide whether we can take him at his word or whether he’s full of it!
“Mr Rudd said that the buck stops with him on health and that he’d address the problem by the middle of 2009.”
“Well, we’ve arrived in the middle of 2009 and all the Government has to show for its efforts is Nicola Roxon referring to an amorphous report as some sort of master plan, bureaucratic dodging mechanism that stands in proxy for responsibility”, according to Senator Barnaby Joyce.
“It sounds awfully like the buck has been flicked into the nebulous filing cabinet under ‘U’ for unbelievable because it’s proved too difficult for the spin merchants to manage. The reality is the debt we’ve got ourselves into is going to have inevitable consequences.”
“As far as health goes the States can’t afford to keep it, the Commonwealth can’t afford to take it and neither of them can afford for you to receive it.”
“Within two years this Nation will be in a financial hole never before seen in living memory. It will be a self inflicted financial hole brought about by debt and the ramifications will be the inability to supply basic public infrastructure and services. The situation regarding the Nation’s failing health system is just the precursor”, Senator Joyce says.
“The States have got themselves into a position where they can’t fund their service requirements and they fail to realise that their expenditure is way beyond their income. Instead they are relying on a slight of hand trick with the Federal Government propping them up with “stimulant measures”, stimulant being a euphemism for money borrowed from overseas.”
“The States are blindly hoping that an angel will somehow descend from heaven with bag loads of money to fix their current debts. “
“The Federal Government on the other hand has had a wonderful day at the races with the miracle cheque book, but unfortunately now the cheques are starting to bounce.”
“Those who will suffer the consequences of this complete economic profligacy are the Australian taxpayers whose tax dollars have disappeared into ceiling insulation, boom gates, 900 dollar cheques, a travel budget comparable to the Queen for the Prime Minister, and a retinue of school halls and toilet blocks whether you want them or not. Now there’s no money left for basic services such as health”, says Senator Joyce.
“Our hospital system is in an absolute shambles and Mr Rudd really only has two choices, either honour your promise or come clean and tell us you are out of money and can’t stump up the dough!”
