Senator Barnaby Joyce, the leader of the Nationals in the Senate, said he would like to convey his deep sympathy to the family and friends of the latest Australian soldier to die in Afghanistan.
“Unfortunately as the conflict in Afghanistan continues the price of freedom mounts,” he said. “The purpose of operations in Afghanistan remains paramount as this is an area in which the extremists find not only their sustenance but their potential for growth with proven tentacles that touch all corners of the globe.
“Though one cannot dare to comprehend the anguish and sadness of the soldier’s family, the purpose of his life is absolute and unambiguous. His life was laid down in Afghanistan so that others in Australia can remain at a distance from the militant extremist forces that he was fighting.
“Our thoughts and prayers remain with his family, not only today but for as long as we enjoy the safety and security of our home and his, Australia.”
