Senator Barnaby Joyce, the Leader of the Nationals in the Senate, today vowed to ensure that all the support and resources available are extended to those people affected by the storms and flooding that are wreaking havoc across South East Queensland.

Senator Joyce was in Upper Kedron prior to the devastation of the first of these brutal storms and feels deeply for the loss and damage the events of the week have wrought. As he did after the Charleville and Emerald floods, Senator Joyce intends to visit storm affected areas to see what assistance is needed and to investigate the issues that require follow up.

“It is important to ensure that any unresolved issues are dealt with promptly after the clean up is finished,” Senator Joyce said. “To those volunteers and community members helping with the clean up, it is a true reflection of the Australian spirit to work flat out for nothing more than a cup of tea and a smile.

“An event like this reaffirms that the Australian spirit still exists in times of adversity. When strangers meet and are unified by a common purpose that is what joins them as Queenslanders and Australians. That spirit is far stronger than any storm’s capacity to destroy.”
