Yesterday I flew in the Rescue 500 helicopter to Thallon, south of St George. The Moonie River has spread over the area and many buildings are inundated. Residents are coping quite well and we are endeavouring to help them with practical things including a pump to keep the communications tower dry. We delivered fresh bread and will today get bottled water and insect repellant. Members of the community said the levy needs to be higher by about 500 mms. I believe that they will organise local contractors to do this soon. They also need to have a better system of actually measuring the level of the flood water. Let's hope they don't need to test a higher levy bank for along time yet.
