Media Releases

08

I must admit that after the appointment to Shadow Finance Minister my comic relief came from Treasurer Swan’s media release stating that I must follow Labor’s strict rules on fiscal discipline.

It’s like Captain Calamity’s instructions on yoga. There’s one thing that is absolutely certain, I will not be taking any lead, whatsoever, from a crowd who have taken us from having tens of billions of dollars in the bank, to debt up to our eyeballs, with more dogs tied up around town than Bernie Madoff.
Labor has gone on a spending bender and is now waiting for the fairy godmother to come and rub the red ink from the books.
Let’s get this right from the start. The Labor Party have not got a clue what money is worth. They have no respect for debt.
Currently, so the Australian people know, the debt they owe, to a range of countries such as China, the good people of Japan and the Middle East and everyone in between, amounts to $115.71 billion dollars.
I will bet you London to a brick that this debt is only going to go in one direction under the Labor Government and that is up.
Why is there no exit strategy to pay off the debt that they have lumbered Australia with?
A long range forecast for the Labor Party is a cacophony of confusion, with a range of excuses that it might be bad but it is not as bad as some countries.
Over time, the countries they are comparing us with will get worse and worse and worse, until we end up once more with the Labor Party saying that our financial position is preferable to that of certain South American dictatorships and collapsed Eastern European economies.
The good news is, if they wanted to, there is the capacity now to discontinue on the path they have us on.
That opportunity will disappear if they keep spending borrowed money the way they are spending it at the moment.
Please Wayne, stop the media releases. Your last one brought the house down.

I don't think i have ever been treated to a comedy show by a politician and actually witnessed the serious mocking and attacking of a treasurers ability and policy. It makes me wish i lived in Queensland, so i could vote for you. Alas.

I had to send a link to all my friends interested in politics. Cause it was great.

Barnie, if nothing else we can expect a lot of laughs during your short tenure as Finance minister. May your tears of laughter water this parched dry land. Keep it up mate. But remember to save your best work for parliament.

...and thanks to Daniel Joyce for his valuable contribution.

Just stepping back into reality for a sec; it is all too easy to snipe from the sidelines in the Trademark Joycian "knockabout vernacular" (TJKV). But, where is the substance - where is the intelligence - where is the credible alternative? The answers are an emphatic (using the TJKV) dunno - dunno - dunno.

Now listen here Barnaby - if you are going to get any respect from other than your fan-club, and therefore help your cause in the broader spectrum, you need to turn the bullshit-o-meter down below 11 and start to come up with some policies.

Don't get me wrong, I think you may have one or two good ideas; but wrapped up in a thick veneer of bullshit I fear they may never see the light of day.

Just saying...

We will not be able to repay the debt if the Capenhagen agreement is signed and any cash we do have will be allocated to developing countries, such as Africa, as per the UN documentation.

Barnaby - whenever we hear you speak we wonder what on earth you are saying.

It is such a mouthful of gobbledegook and it appears you do not understand economics yourself. You may be an accountant but you have a lot to learn about speaking the truth.

When you start to spout fact, as against fiction, we may listen.

Barnaby,

How about a press release on the Copenhagen treaty.
How much it will cost.
Why we are paying it considering this country is in huge debt.
Who is getting Australia's money.
Who decides who gets our money.
And if this travesty of a treaty can be reversed.
I for one am sick to death of hearing about the United Nations
The United Nations is a group of parasitic bureaucrats who are completely unaccountable to anyone but who want to run global finances.
Let's hear some facts not Labor rhetoric

If Rudd is promising 7+ billion dollars per year unaccountable to the United Nations that should be paid when and if Australia's schools, hospitals, public transport, water, housing shortages, reforestation, aboriginal housing and schools, land desalination, river regeneration, solar housing panels .... etc etc etc have ALL been addressed. Government after government pass the buck and it's time to be responsible. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

Well said Barnaby, I have always said that the Labor party always get the country into debt and the Libs have to get back in to fix it.

They have no idea - they live in an idealistic world with no grip on reality - it has never been any different in my lifetime. Go Libs and Nats.

Chairman Rudd has to go,

On the issue of foreign debt, I think we are looking at the kettle calling the pot black.

If people access the Parliamentary Records on foreign debt for the 20 years 1988-2008, they will find that the coalition is equally guilty of racking up a helluva lot of possibly non-repayable global debt.

Liberals may have shoved all of their Green skeletons back into the closet for the moment, but they have proven to have exactly the same agenda as Labor and The Greens i.e. to empower the corporates so they can rule the world.

The Greens are coming in from the communist left, and Liberals from the corporate right. Labor is smack dab in the middle, with the gap between all 3 parties dwindling.

Here are 2 new ideas coming from Slave Labor Communists and Green Taxation Experts in the Queensland state government, in only one day.

1. Before you sell your home, you will need to pay $500 for an environmental audit.

2. If your dog is too fat and you don't walk it every day, the government will fine you.

Barnaby,
This is exactly the sort of thing the opposition should have been doing the entire time; holding the Government to account. You did it with the CPRS/ETS thing, and you are doing it with the "$900" $40,000,000,000 stimulus package.
Keep up the good work.

God am I sick of listening to the bias of the ABC Lateline show.
Tony (whatsey name) needs to be carstrated... the propaganda control by the Govn, and the amount of media content pushing the climate/environmental issues is massive and getting worse.
No wonder Rudd hasnt appeared on the show for ages.....why bother ..Lateline and the ABC is doing all the work for him !!
Is there any other news occuring in the world today ...other than informing all our children that may be in danger of dying in the near future.
Start covering a few commonsense issues like :
Lousey public transport and why the NSW Railcorp is full of corruption paying out thousands of $$$$ to contractors, who never seems to finish a job.
(Newcastle to Sydney line has been under repairs for the entire 39yrs that i have known !!) WHY, what the hell are they doing??? We could have had a brand new track built years ago in 1/10th of the time.
How about deciding what we are to do with disabled adults when their ageing parents can no longer take care of them?
This topic is becoming desperate and yet noone wants to know.
ABC would rather comment on wild camels getting shot,or making sure farmers today leave part of their land for corridors to let all the creepy crawlies track to higher ground when the water rises on the coast.
Who cares about the farmers and rural population as long as the animals get saved first.
Has this country gone mad? Where's the priorities?
These environmental nutters are already "ruling us" and they are getting away with it !!
Wake up Australia........read between the lines ..and definitely dont believe the garbage the ABC and govn are feeding you.
Keep up the great work Barnaby ..dont let the Labor Party roll you...Oh they're trying hard !! and please dont change...we desperately need you just the way you are.
Kind Regards

shannon:

I think it is clear that Global Communists from The Greens, Labor and Liberals only care about able-bodied people who are able to work.

In the May budget, unemployment benefits and Widow Allowance weren't increased in line with other Centrelink payments. For those who aren't aware, Widow Allowance is no longer payable to women born after 30 June 1955, and has a requirement for paid or voluntary work.

Now we are told that Rudd is reviewing the Disability Support Pension, no doubt with the aim of cutting as many people off as possible.

People on UB, WA and DSP have something in common. They cannot find work due to age discrimination or disability.

For many years, both Labor and Liberal governments have empowered double income couples financially (and not only those on lower incomes) at the expense of the poor.

For those who aren't aware, the Child Care Rebate has no means test applied. This means that the wives of wealthy men can get paid the equivalent of a pension to go out to work! That's with 2 children in full-time care. The payment is $7778 per child.

Now Ron Boswell (Nationals) wants that non-means tested payment extended to women STAYING AT HOME with their children. My party leader (DLP) thinks that's a fair thing as well.

Hey guys, what about the poor???

Well, I take my comments back. Clearly I am in the minority and totally wrong.

Barnaby, according to the comments here, you are actually the messiah and will bring budget surplusses with no recession, heath to the unhealthy, trains running on time, allowances for all (except if you're too rich), global cooling, castration of Tony Jones - just to name a few.

I have severely underestimated you. I will sit back with a beer and watch you walk across lake Burley Griffin to save us all.

But seriously "Barn"; with supporters like yours, it appears that you are a surrogate Pauline Hanson. How embarrassing.

Because the debt is soooo easy to pay down when we're waist deep in a Depression.

Yes, we're in a huge debt, but that debt was necessary to shore up the Australian economy at a time that it might have sunk given the global crisis.

Sure, we're not yet out of the woods, but the alternative was the type of housing market crash, breadlines and tent cities that exist (albeit well-hidden) in the US.

Hey Barnaby,

An absolute cracker of a press release. The Abbott and Barnaby show is going to have an army of supporters.

Oh Barmy Barnaby,
You poor deluded country bumpkin. You might be an accountant but that doesn't mean you know anything about economics- and it shows in this feeble rant. You don't even understand the basic facts of national debt.

I would happily have voted for Malcom Turnbull, an accomplished achiever in a number of fields before he entered Parliament. Reasoned and articulate, he understood the basic common sense of tackling carbon emissions and that sometimes in politics it is actually beneficial to an opposition to co-operate with the Govt on policy in the national interest. However, with Mad Monk Tony at the helm, and a cast of whack-jobs and revived zombies from Howard's worst excesses (I mean come on -Bronnie? Ruddock?! Andrews!!?! It's like 'night of the living dead'!), there is no chance I'd risk letting Australia fall into your demented clutches.

PS> Any farmer who is stupid enough to vote for you deserves all the drought and pestilience he will surely have visited upon him should we as aplanet not do our bit to tackle climate change

Keep up the excellent work Barnaby...the "Greatful Army" is with you all the way.

Actually half of my family are farmers; they just happen to be in the smart camp, not the 'head in the sand' camp. As for 'school', I guarantee you that I am as highly educated as one can get- and here's the thing; unlike Barney here, and his throng of adoring yokels, I am actually qualified to undersatnd the scdience of climate change and the risk managemnt economics of how to abate it.

Yap on as much as you want, shannon, on websites like this, you and your fellow travellers in ignorance and stupidity. I promise you that most Australians are far too rational and intelligent to hand Australia to a gang of religous nutters and agarian socialists.

Daz, Got news for you. You're not the only one highly educated (in the science field) I might add!!
Im also a "product of the land"......so ive seen both sides of the fence.!
A piece of paper doesnt qualify you...to know it all.!!
I work with educated drips like you ..and most cant see "the forest for the trees".

Shannon, tell you what: If we have it your way there won't be no forests with trees.

So tell me friend, if you're educated in science, how can you possibly be on the sceptics side? You surely understand ELEMENTARY physics and chemistry - surely you had at least up to year 10 education?

As for your dislike of educated people keep in mind that without us, you wouldn't be enjoying a country full of opportunities. Farmers might've provided food, but education brought prosperity. It worked hand in hand.

I have all respect for farmers. Seriously, I can't do what they can so I have the outmost respect for the hardworking men and women. It's whingers I can't stand. You're not the only person in this world. Stop thinking about yourself and look at the greater picture. And the fact that you can believe the rambles of this crazy lemon just goes to show how naive and dumb you are.

Go Barnaby and good luck, keep going at them.

Seems you are doing something right, you certainly seem to be attracting enough of the ex uni guild politico types, whose only qualifier of good government is that the handouts keep coming. 'Socialism - a great system until you have spent all of someone elses money.

Still can't figure the media and their lack of scrutiny on this current government, if they wont do it, then it is up to the Liberals to keep the blowtorch on their reckless spending, broken promises, declaration of wars on everything - and then failing to even act, great moral challenges, politics of envy and yeah, another thing - my kids still want those computers.

We've had enough, go for it Barnaby and Tony

Hi Barnaby; good post and save us from the cost of an ETS
in case you missed it here's a link to Global Warming Petition project signed by 31,486 American scientists http://www.petitionproject.org/index.php
it includes a 12 page review article under Peer Reviewed Research
by Arthur B. Robinson, Noah E. Robinson, and Willie Soon
of the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine, 2251 Dick George Road, Cave Junction, Oregon 97523 the conclusion being There are no experimental data to support the hypothesis that increases in human hydrocarbon use or in atmospheric carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are causing or can be expected to cause unfavorable changes in global temperatures, weather, or landscape. There is no reason to limit human production of CO2, CH4, and other minor greenhouse gases as has been proposed (82,83,97,123).
I understand there about 6,000 scientists employed by NASA & CRU and WWO so I suppose when pondering the preponderence of evidence it depends on your definition of 'preponderence'

Friday, December 11, 2009 11:17 AM
I am excited - well done Barnaby! I agree, this is exactly what the Coalition should have been doing over the past two years in rather than the inhouse drama that has unfolded - In the meantime KR and the Labour government have been able to do as they wish without any real scrutiny as all that they have had to do is point to the chaos of the Libs and all opposition / alternatives have been invalidated.
Even though it has been unexpected, I am looking forward to the Coalition under Tony Abbott - a unified Coalition to enable the Australian public to hear the voices of people like you Barnaby and other front benchers. I look forward to a credible Coalition once again so that K. Rudd and his mates are held accountable.

Rudd, if you are reading this for ammunition - why not try to counter Barnaby's views on US debt with some logic and facts? What are their liabilities? What are their "off balance sheet liabilities"? Add the two and compare that with the US government income (not GDP) and then when you have picked yourself up off the floor from shock you may have a little more respect for someone with an accounting background. Oh sorry, I forgot you did a Bachelor of Attendance in Asian Studies, right?

Barnaby is right why do we keep on selling everything to other countries. We used to be a self reliant country we need to do it agian. The rest of the world just wants to milk us for what we have Big companys like Rio Tinto and the like are owned by the british 95% and other countries. We work to pay for fat overweight rich pensioners in other countries. All the profits go to keep the fat CROWN FAT. The rest of the world does not care about Australia when are people going to wake up. The rest of the world just wants to get its paws on to our assets and use them up. The money from our asstes should be going to Australia and the australian people. We destroy the earth to just keep the rest of the world happy. They are so detached from us that they don't care what we are disroying to make there money. The land these asstes comes from is amazing once it is gone it is gone for ever. What will happen to us when we have nothing for the rest of the world they would find some where else to rape and pilage and that is what they do. You may get a pasting in the media for your outspoken views, but you are one of only a few politicians in this country with the guts to tell the truth. Like it or not, there are so many conspiracies well under way designed to strip nations of their sovereignty and their wealth to support supposed 'fixes' of either outright hoaxes (climate change) or massive problems the elite globalist totalitarians have deliberately created.

Never has our national sovereignty or personal freedom been under such imminent threat since the thwarted Japanese invasion of WWII. We must draw a line in the sand NOW or forever regret our passivity and ignorance.

Barnaby,

You are coming across as a goose and doing yourself no credit. The nonsense you spun re debt levels does nothing for yourslef or your parties. You need to project yourself as an intelligent leader and the alternative government instead of a disorganised rabble spitting out cliches and soundbites. Your leader Mr Abbott is going to play into the ALP's hands if he lives up to his promise to just 'criticise the government'.

Get yourself a decent advisor so you don't try and rely on some experience running a small town accountancy to formulate your arguments - unless of course all you want to do is play to a certain audience. It'll be easy to become the new Pauline Hanson, much harder to become a viable alternative government.

Auhhh Auhhhh whats the matter folks ? Is Barnaby spilling the beans to much? Did Queensland have its credit rating downgraded? Is Queensland in hock? Whats the matter folks is truth to much now? USA about to default on its debt? C'mon Barnaby that's old news its just these folk have never heard it before. Ask Mr O, he knows he cant pay it, the people know it but they don't live in the real world anymore. They are to busy trying to save the world by paying millions of dollars to China to HELP them develop something they cant, a world without carbon emissions. . What a joke eh but what the hell give them some bucks everyone else is getting them . How much 0.7% 1% 10% 20% what the hell it doesn't matter they don't pay it WE DO YOU IDIOTS.

Oh by the way Barnaby, how dare you tell the banks we could possibly, maybe, might interfere with their business of making folk broke at the Federal Reserves request ( by the way folks the Australian reserve bank is neither Australian nor does it have it have a reserve) It is a private corporation run by the officers that every other central bank in every other country has.It is just that weak kneed governments have given into this system that makes you broke by way of a BIG NEW TAX called interest rate rises every month. What makes me laugh is you lot swallow it, wring your knuckles and say oh what can we do . Simple suggestion SACK THE RESERVE BANK or should I say the global government you don't know you already have but all the politicians do know we have.

Of course Labour wouldn't do that would they ask Telstra officials if they would dare do that.

i think that the undisclosed..and unaudited debt in qld and nsw...are the results of being scammed..by securities traitor/trading...how i understand the scam to work..is they sell off say the sewers/sew-rage system..to investers...and sign contracts..with default clauses..that seek immediate debt recovery

so how the numbers work...they get a few billion..cash...then repay..the debt by increasing prices...when they default...the norm is for the debt to double...then the asset sales/or maybe more apt...seisure of the assets to the private sector

but it gets worse...there is no oversight over govt in qld...no one holding them to account..at all...thats why lawyers make laws...as govt members[read beaty..who as a politico/lawyer..re wrote the qld constitution into act 80..of 2001..putting the non referendum changes ]in conveniant conditions of goverance..like the house of revieuw...into the addendum..http://www.worldfreemansociety.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=1301&p=6921&hilit=qld+constitution+act+70+of+2002+2001#p6921

the melt down of the usa..fiat money reserrve has a simple remedy...stop lending fia from the banker controled fed..ie follow pres oeder 11.110..and issue their own green notes intrst free

anyhow barnaby i feel ...till govts issue their own money[not the feds...at intrest...govt is only going to get worse...the states are being used to steal the peoples assets.....while lawyers police us via their policy policing at the point of threat..by taser

We have everything the world wants. Resources, Agriculture, Beef Exports, etc., etc... No nation is going to go to War over it.... they don't have to. Economics is the driving factor here.. Look at recent events with our latest LNG contracts... what does that tell you Barnaby.. ? We are here for the long haul. So are they...We have what the world wants (including Rare Earth Minerals) so ease up a little... take a breath and stop sounding like a panicked man.. the only thing stopping our country from growing at the global rate is a lack of water.... and that's our chief concern right now...

Shame on you both. Your pride is interefering here and at a personal level. It is obvious to me that you both have a great love of this country and are very proud of it... but you are both apparently prepared to bicker over the details and (even sadder) wave pieces of paper at each other to prove their point. With all due respect, whether its Labor or the coalition, the debt problem is one that neither are willing to deal with. Barnaby, you quote that labor doesnt know the value of money. But, do you realise that whilst money is debt created by private banks, the debt problem can only get worse? Wake up and smell the roses - The system is a ponzi scheme! Until the monetary system is replaced, there will be no recovery. There is only so many public assets you can flog off to Macquarie bank to balance budgets.

Well done Barnaby....I have been saying since he got elected..Wayne Swan has NO experience at anything other than being a professional Labor Party Hack!!! How can a person who has no business ability or experience and who is not an acoountant be in control of the countries purse strings?..That fool Rudd has now come out and said no family will be worse of if he signs away our soverenty in Copenhagen, if you beleive that you are a fool because he is bribing us with borrowed money. One day some despot will lead China and he will say thanks Aussies we will have your country now in payment of the debt. As for the ABC it is run by all the lefties the same as our unis and the public service. God help anyone if they disagree with anything they say or do because you will be branded a racist or a sceptic. If they are so concerned about climate change why did they take so many people to Copenhagen and why do they wear summer dresses when the outside temperature is minus 2??? About time they practice what they preach! As for Garrett he is a joke, he was a lousy singer and he is a lousy politician..what a farce is the insulation racket. Already we have 3 people dead, wait till winter we will have a lot more house fires because of shoddy insulation and then they are dumping the old bats on the side of the road. As usual a lot of crooks have made a lot of money out of this stupid policy. As an Aussie born and bred and a taxpayer I object to all the benefits paid to refugees. If I want to rent I have to have references, pay slips and statements from previous landlords...but the government guarantees these people, they get government housing in front of us and somehow they get a licence when they cant even speak English. My daughter has to pay childcare for her children, but Sudanese people in Coffs Harbour have a carer in house paid for by my taxes!! The elderly, many of them fought in the war and worked for low-pay to shape this country have now been left to try to survive on a paltry pension. If you are a druggo or an Alcoholic the church and the Salvos will feed you six times a day for free...but the poor old pensioner has to pay $8.00 for meals-on-wheels....go figure!!!...Barnaby, Alan Jones said on radio the other day what a gem you are and we will never be able to pay you enough....I agree keep bashing them up and dont let them intimidate you....The only reason Rudd got elected was because he was on Sunrise and he went on all the FM Radio stations...How many young people are interested in politics? Not many but he made himself very visible and made John Howard look like and old dinosaur...I do think Howard was an excellent Prime Minister, but I do think he stayed too long....As for Turnbull he is only interested in himself, My friend entertained Turnbull and Neville Wran when they were grooming him to be a Labor state premier....he must have decided he wanted the top job instead,so somehow changed his mind and joined the Liberals, but as a Leftie he is someone we can well do without....Lynda....

Barnaby - we have met a few times at Dr Alex Douglas's place. I have emails from my friends in America all stating "At least an Ozzie knows what's going on!" when you commented, rightly so, on America's debt crisis. A further email received from Los Angeles today said "Interesting what is happening in the last few days, dollar going up and today gold up $20. Are they becoming decoupled? Should we now break above the $1220.00 level on gold, America has just had the biggest vote of "NO CONFIDENCE" This is going to be very interesting........ Cheers Gordon

Despite predictions by the climate change alarmists, the 2008-2009 winter in the Northern Hemisphere has been the coldest for decades.

Across Europe and North America, the conditions have resulted in severe disruption. Heavy snow and ice has closed roads, shutdown train, bus and airline services, and prevented residents from getting to their workplaces and schools.

Hundreds of millions of people have found some relief in front of human-made firesides and in heated rooms.

There have been no recent reports on how the polar bears are coping.
