The response to the “Stop The ETS” petition launched by Senator Barnaby Joyce, the Leader of the Nationals in the Senate, has seen more than 13,000 signatures added in less than a fortnight.

“It has been amazing to watch the names being added since the petition was launched on my website on November 9,” Senator Joyce said.

"As soon as the petition is mentioned on radio hundreds of names appear. My Senate colleagues Fiona Nash and John Williams have supported the petition with links from their websites and together with all Nationals MPs and Senators we have made our position clear from day one: this ETS is a massive new tax and working families and regional Australia will bear the brunt of it.

“Many of those signing have also expressed their desire in writing or with a telephone call to our offices to have this tax stopped.

“In my speech to the Senate on 19 November I asked if sea-level rises would be affected by the emissions trading scheme. Even if you believe everything about the global warming debate, the answer is: categorically, no. Will species extinction be exacerbated if Australia does not take on the ETS? Categorically, no. Will polar icecaps melt if Australia does or does not takes on the ETS? There is no relationship whatsoever. Will the droughts of southern Australia be brought to a conclusion or extended by anything Australia does with the ETS? The answer is: no.”

There are discussions between the Government and the Opposition about amendments to the bills and in her speech Senator Nash put this position very clearly on the record: “Those amendments will not change anything. They will not change those three key things: that it is a massive new tax; it is going to hit regional Australia harder than anywhere else; and, if the rest of the world is not on board, it is not going to make the slightest bit of difference to the climate—not any.”

"There are only a few days to go before the Senate must vote on this insidious new tax and we must vote no," Senator Joyce said.

Please sign the petition and send the link to others.

Yes, this is excellent. I am hoping Malcolm Turnbull will be replaced by Tony Abbott. Hopefully he has more common sense.

But I feel we must do something further, and that is to continue to debunk The Greens and their numerous extreme, ricidivist and lunatic ideas which will only lead to worldwide poverty and starvation - and then adopt a moderate stance on the reduction of pollution.

At the same time, we will need to insist that democracy is actually practised in the parliament. All MPs should be able to vote according to their own conscience on ANY issue, using a secret ballot. I don't think they should be forced to cross the floor, and then be castigated by the party leader or other members.

The State or National Executive of any party should not be able to dogmatically harangue Party Leaders or MPs on their own behalf, or those of vested interests, especially huge corporations.

Instead let us ABSOLUTELY INSIST upon the strengthening of the National Farmers' Federation, instead of allowing vested interests to hammer it and our primary producers into oblivion.

I am thankful that there is one politician who is not caving in the this madness. I am disappointed that the Liberals have not taken a stand against the ETS as I have been a Liberal voter most of my voting life. Too much spin from our government and everyone ready to admire the emperor's new clothes. Keep up the good work. Stephen Sharman.

Hi Jeanie:

My first inkling of the demise of the NFF came from the "Landline" program on the ABC at noon one Sunday.

A spokesman for the NFF said that SA, WA and a grain group had all dropped out. Apparently they have to pay to be members. Without money, they don't have any strength.

Then we were told they were taking on Associate Members, such as suppliers, for financial reasons.

Then another man said they would need to build a "fire wall" between the Members and the Associate Members to protect the interests of the farmers.

Overall, I didn't like what I heard. So I emailed Tony Zegenhagen, federal leader of the DLP, and he said that the NFF was being destroyed from the inside out in Canberra, and had been going down the tube for about 18 months. That was a few months ago now.

We need word from Senator Joyce about this, since it would appear to be in his domain. Perhaps he could tell us what is actually going on.

A friend of mine has just returned from Melbourne. She said her farming friends were having to sell some of their dairy cattle, because they couldn't get a decent price for their milk.

It is my feeling that huge corporations want to push the Aussie farmers out, buy the land themselves, and then import Asian slaves to do the work. No doubt most of the dairy products, wheat etc will then go to the Chinaweath of Nations.

Corporations might use concepts of Greenism to get the farmers out as well - saying they're going to convert the farms into forests so their little furry friends can proliferate - but then import a "forestful" of slaves when the farmers are gone instead!

A lot of the minor parties and independents don't support any kind of Green ideology either. They are well aware of the effects it might have on our farmers and business people.

I would advise everyone to cease eating at Hungry Jacks. They have blown a raspberry at our hard working potato farmers, and are now sourcing them from somewhere within the Chinawealth.

I pray to God that this evil ETS will be stopped and the only ones who can stop it are the members of the Coalition who are not taken in by Mr. Turnbull and Ian McFarlane - one who supports it, albeit in a modified form , and one who is dazzled by being "the negotiator" I would say that if this ETS is passed then the electorate will turn on the Coalition as they could have had it stopped if they had the political will - to hell with the threat of a double dissolution. It is better to have your integrity as a party. When the electorate realise they have been sold down the river by the Opposition then there will be hell to pay. Is it worth it? Defy Mr Turnbull - he supports a tax - after all he was a banker and money is their God. He is a Rhodes Scholar as are many of the Labor Party politicians and they turn out many socialists who believe in the policies of Karl Marz - the father of Communism..

And unto Mother Earth, a Child was born - the Green Son of Satan.

And all of the Fathers of the Corporate World rejoiced, rubbed their hands together with glee, then fell to their knees to give thanks ... for all of the new taxes they could collect ... Carbon Tax, Water Tax, Cattle Flatulence Tax, Atmospheric Breathing Contribution, Bank Bailout Tax ... while gifting 50 years worth of natural gas to a Communist Superpower, and paying 10,000 people slave wages to take it.

And into the country they brought million upon million migrants and boat people, to disempower the unions, reduce wages and working conditions, so the Corporate Fathers could send even more money out of the country to hasten Global Communist Government.

And all of the Climate God's disciples went forth into the world, and preached the new Gospel according to The Greens.

And they infiltrated the churches and taught the new Carbon Religion, which was Atheism and Communism, and the people bowed their heads in solemn prayer to Mother Earth, for delivering unto the whole World a new Saviour.

And then the Fathers of the Corporate World completely destroyed the National Farmers' Federation.

And then destitute farmers sold their land to huge corporations.

And then it came to pass that asian slaves worked the land, and most of our food and mineral resources was sent out of the country, via privatised rail and ports.

And then the people were forced to pay high prices for the little food that remained, and go about in the dark searching for candles, because they could not afford to pay the high prices exacted by the Climate God - for privatised electricity, gas, fuel, water, carbon, flatulence and oxygen.

And then competition for work and accommodation became so great that million upon million people lost their jobs and their homes, and had to pay a huge fee to live in tents on the streets with their starving children.

And then The Greens' Climate God beheld the Monster he had created, and was pleased.

I emailed the PM and told him if he brings in this heinous tax, I will never vote for Labor again. I never bothered to mention that I've only voted for Labor once in 36 years, and even that was a serious error of judgement.

Thanks for the link, Julie.

According to the 5.00 p.m. news today, Labor intends to unload some new plan for ETS on the Coalition on Tuesday.

That doesn't leave a lot of time for debate and consideration, with a vote expected to be taken on Friday.

I think all politicians should tell Penny Wong to stuff it up her jumper.

Barnaby

Please drum up as much party support against the ETS as possible. I am of the view that WONG and RUDD are trying to curry favour on the world stage at the expense of all Australias. If this scheme passes in the senate it will come at large financial burden to the ordinary person (this doesn't include RUDD who is a multi-millionaire). The cost of fuel will rise significantly impacting on food prices. The cost of electricity will rise, as if it isn't expensive enough now. I am sick to death of this WONG character (born in Malaysia) and RUDD (seeking some sort of UN secretary reward after politics) running off at the mouth about this crap. At the last election I would be confident in saying that a fair majority of voters turned away from the coalition becuase of Workchoices and were not au fait with what RUDD's mob had in stall with the ETS to impress some world leaders such as OBAMA. What is disappointing, is that the inexperienced Malcolm Turnball with his appointed mouthpiece Ian MacPharlane don't have the backbone to say flat out NO to RUDD and WONG. Turnball is misjudging the electorate. Let RUDD call a double-dissolution on the ETS and Turnball may just be surprised at what support there is against this furphy. On another note, as if this won't cause enough financial hardship, watch out for the recommendations from the Ken Henry report (these will probably try to interfere with your superannuation entitlements. It appears to me if you are a no-hoper or a boat person the Labor Party welcomes you into the fold and gives you a free ride including a pension, housing and free medical. Heaven forbid if you are a decent hard-working person looking forward to a self-funded retirement with your own house and private medical benefits for which you have worked all your life. This could all be in danger. In this country a person would probably be better off being in some minority group and being an alcoholic, free loading dole recipient bludger. At least that way you would get a free lunch from the government without Labor trying to strip away your hard earned money, superannuation and assets, making you work until you drop dead. This sums up my thoughts on Labor.

Climate change is REAL. It is with extreme likelihood anthropogenic, Australia is the highest per capita polluter IN THE WORLD and the impacts will be catastrophic.

We've been the leaders into this mess and now we're going to turn our backs and wait until everyone else fixes the problem first?! Are we men or are we sheep? Developing nations won't follow until rich nations like Australia start to act.

Have some guts Barnaby. It's time for Australia to show leadership, not play politics, cowardice and finger pointing.

Dear Senator Joyce,

You are a breath of fresh air to the current politicians both Federal and in Opposition. You seem to be the voice of the people and the only one who makes any sense at all. I am sure I would be speaking for most Australians when I ask if there was some way for you to move to a position where we could elect you as our next Prime Minister. The way I see it, it would be very dangerous to have Mr. Rudd serve another term as I could not imagine the irreparable damage that he would have our country in.

I thank you for speaking sense with ETS and I love all the interviews I hear you on Radio 2GB.

Good luck and very kind regards,

Shannon,

For your information, no, I'm not not younger than 25 years. I'm more interested in facts than age discrimination though. I've also lived both sides of the fence in poverty and affluence. Including through 3 business degrees, while working fulltime (no I've never accepted a Centrelink handout).

The reality is anti-environment lobby groups have immense funding resources from big oil and industry. These are vast sums of money to protect interests of a minority at the cost of all of us. It's easy to drown facts in propaganda with that kind of money (even George W. Bush was an oil man!). Who pays for green lobbying?

If you do your research with open eyes, you'll realise that facts speak for themselves. This rapid rate of warming IS unprecedented, and it's almost certainly caused by human activity.

The global warming skeptics echo like people saying that soil salinity was a scam. Fact is it's not...

To those who have fallen victim to the Green scam:

The DLP will be running a Scientist for the Senate. He has spoken out publicly about the Green farce of Climate Change.

To me, it is completely ludicrous that scientists think they could outdo Mother Nature or God, depending on who or what they believe in.

All you have to do is look at some of the skulduggerous people pushing this rubbish for their own gain.

Try googling "Lord Chris Haskins" from the British parliament and take a look at his background of previous misdemeanours. He's trying to get rid of the livestock industries in his own area so he can build condominiums, and grow more wheat. Wheat currently commands the highest price of all of the world's grains, and it is also fed to livestock. What a farce!

Please also check out the facts on the USA's people who measure temperature. They are connected to the US Department of Commerce (money).

NB It is bad blogging manners to call people names, especially when it is the Senator, who is doing his best to keep you informed, despite the skulduggerous ducking and weaving done by others.
# David Metcalf
Monday, November 23, 2009 7:59 AM

Ah Lorikeet,

It's not about scientists 'outdoing' God or Mother Nature. If you point a gun a your foot and pull the trigger, is it ludicrous that you'll have shot yourself in the foot? If you're a crazy arsonist and set your neighbours property on fire, is it ludicrous that it will burn down? If you pollute the atmosphere with gases that insulate the Earth's crust it will warm up.

what's ludicrous is to think humans could clear fell most of the World's mature tropical forests, pour many billion of tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere each year and expect that nothing would happen. We've disrupted Earth's basic feedback mechanisms. We don't have time to wait for the perfect solution - we've run out of time to act.

We are now facing a runaway problem - as reflective white ice melts, insulating humidity increases, warming oceans release disolved CO2, melting artic ice and permafrost release methane, phytoplankton die from warming oceans (responsible for 50% of half of the photosynthesis on Earth). The problem becomes self reinforcing and accelerates.

Global warming due to human activity is acknowledged and confirmed by the national academies of science of all major industrialized countries.

David Metcalf:

A shot in the foot or lighting a house fire are quite simple matters of cause and effect that are certainly not comparable with the extremely complex issue of climatology.

I can only assume that you come from South Bumcrack which seems to have a lot of social workers, sociologists, statisticians and scientists - most of whom have been heavily indoctrinated with government propaganda in a government department or semi-autonomous organisation e.g. the CSIRO.

In fact I think the CSIRO should be renamed Central Bumcrack, because of all of the conflicting theories and solutions they come up with, even in the one speech.

I will bring you up to speed on a Bumcrack next time, since I now have to rush off.

Lorikeet,

The only government propaganda and conspiracy here is that fueled by the big money of oil, coal, forestry & aluminium. The key conspirators even had a name the "Australian Industry Greenhouse Network", a.k.a. The Greenhouse Mafia.

This Four Corners transcript gives just a few examples of the corruption. http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/content/2006/s1568867.htm

How laughable that you think CSIRO has spruked this. Dr Graeme Pearman (the former CSIRO Climate Director) was continually censored by the government for trying to publish the facts. CSIRO is gagged from disagreeing with Gov't anti-environment policy, because Gov't holds the purse strings.

I sincerely hope that you win with regards this hair brained scheme called the ETS. When will people wake up that it is nothing but a tax masquerading as an ideology of mis directed souls and will do not one iota to bring about any change in the temperature of the Earth or the atmosphere. This is totally controlled by the Sun and I hope people realize this fact and acknowledge it accordingly. We have had hotter days than we are experiencing now and to attribute this to Global warming (I hate this phrase) is purely opportunistic and bereft of science.

Hello,
I am pleased to see that someone is taking a stand. I have only just heard what this Treaty is all about. Why has there not been a mention to the Australian public that this treaty means that A World Government will take of our country. It seems the ETS is just a smoke screen and the scientists who have provided the "proof of global warming" are all in the back pocket of the governement anyway because if they were not funded by the government they would be out of a job. Hi Senator Joyce

Thank you for your stand against this ridiculous ETS.

We must stand strong and united against this dictator called Kevin Rudd and his cronies in the Labour party. Kevin Rudd has shown time and again he doesn't give a rats about the people of our great nation and he is only out there pushing this ETS barrow so he can get his head on the world political stage to further his chances of being "Leader of the World" of the UN. Please don't let these labourites get away with this money grabbing tax, using this global warming/climate change as an excuse. They're coming in the back door and all sense is going out the front.

I really feel Mr Rudd is using this to pay off much of the debt he's racked up and to big note himself on the world stage.

Who else do we turn to in order to scream out "NO"? You're the only one who's listening to us Barnaby.

Malcolm Turnball isn't speaking for me or my family and may as well be helping Kevin Rudd in his apparent madness to rule the world. Malcolm Turnball is a dead loss. Where's the backbone of some of these other people voted into these positions of power, that they can't stand up for the rest of us who won't go along with this very cleverly orchestrated stupidity.

Please do your best Barnaby and thank you for being open and honest and standing up to the majority, like a voice in the wilderness. You appear to be one of the very few.

What I want to know is, how can we put you in a position whereby we can vote for you as Opposition Leader and eventually Prime Minister?

It is totally un-understandbale how the Rudd Government is so insistent on Australiia going ahead with this garbage CPRS legislation prior to Copenhagen, and I sincerely hope that the Coalition Senators vote it down.

It is also unacceptable that Rudd expects the "amendments" to be properly considered and discussed in two or three days prior to a vote being taken. That in itself is sufficient for the legislation to be knocked back. If Rudd wants a double dissolution, so be it - at least there will be time for the public to be given a proper explanation of the damage that Australia will suffer if this legislation becomes law! - I have spoken to many people about it and no one seems to have any understanding of what it involves, how it will work or how ur economy will be affected.

What caused the global waring when the ice cap receded to the Antarctic at the end of the Ice Age ? It wasn't farming, and it wasn't industrial activity, or electric power generation!

More than 31,000 U.S. scientists (including many Ph.D's) have protested at the pseudo-scientific basis of the pro-Copenhagen cartel.

There are too many unanswered questions and too much political railroading. The "problem" has been developing for years. Why are politicians so urgent (even desperate) in their attempts to bind Australia in an international agreement that can only put our great nation at a disadvantage compared to others?

I say "No" to Mr. Rudd's proposal.
Monday, November 23, 2009 4:42 PM
A recent report stated that if Mr. Rudd and his allies have their way the cost of all goods and services can be expected to rise by at least 7%. Of course, MP's are able to give themselves a pay rise whenever they see the need. Other groups in Australia are less fortunate. They include age, invalid, and war pensioners, as well as drought-stricken farmers. The cost of electric power and water have bpth risen significantly and can be expected to rise still further if the leader of the ALP has his way. It is surprising that the national leader of the party that claims to have the "Aussie battler's" interests at heart can so easily line up with international powers who have no desire to further the prosperity of Australians.
Thankyou Barnaby for taking a stand on an issue of national (and lasting) importance.

I am a current labour supporter who is outraged by this governements attempt to hoodwink me into believing voting for ETS is saving the planet. I have listened to the debate for and against, I have researched different papers and have come to the conclusion that Kevin Rudd is in it for the noteriety and not for the planet. Plain and simple this is an additional tax and should be explained as such as not to mislead the public. It is the sneaky way that they are trying to push this through that abhors me and has made me rethink my labour loyalty. If this goes through I and my family and anybody else I can influence will never be voting Labour again.

David Metcalf:

That was exactly my point. The CSIRO spruiks all kinds of conflicting BS at the behest of the government - whatever suits them at the time, to keep the people confused.

Quite a few of the people posting here don't seem to be in touch with what we've had happening in this country for the past 50 years.

Both Liberals and Labor are committed to Global Communist Governance, and have been working towards that goal. The leaders of big corporations have been calling the shots for a very long time. This is why decisions can only be "taken" from someone else, instead of made by the parliament.

Rudd very clearly expects to become the World Sector Leader of the Asia/Pacific Economic Union by 2020. This is why he has learned to speak to the Chinese in the dulcet tones of Mandarin, instead of the more fiery tones of Dragonfruit, which he could be using to singe the whiskers off their chins.

I think when the corporations and the Chinese are finished with Rudd and have left us virtually penniless, he will probably be shafted to the outer limits of East Bumcrack, where he belongs.

As for the matter of $1.2 trillion foreign debt (and climbing), it has been steadily racked up over the last 20 years under both Liberals and Labor. Rudd may have given it a nasty spike recently, but Liberals are in it as well.

While the big corporations, to which we owe the money (think deregulated banks) have us by the "short and curlies", we cannot have very much independence at all.

If they should suddenly decide to call in debt, we stand to lose $1.1 trillion in superannuation, along with vast tracts of overseas-owned land.

We must also remember that The Greens have a policy on Global Governance up on the internet for all to read at any time. They are the driving force behind the ETS, large population movements and the Climate Change agenda.

Even if the ETS does not get up in the parliament this time, I am expecting a further power shift to The Greens and their mates within Liberal/Labor. The only way we can combat this is to become educated about what is really happening in the world, and then start working on the young people.

Our school children have been indoctrinated with Climate Change Religion in Science lessons at school over many years. Perhaps P&C Associations could jump up and down and tell the government they don't want their children indoctrinated with Green Atheist/Communist Religion in schools.

Other than that, we parents and grandparents must speak with the children and set them straight as to the true agenda. If your children go to Sunday School or church, it might be best to check if they're teaching this rubbish there as well.

Today I spoke with a Chaplain of the Assemblies of God. He said his church teaches NO CLIMATE RUBBISH at all, which is just as it should be.

Now let us also think about the Bank (Superannuation) Bailout Tax. When a government talks about introducing such a tax, I think they are pre-empting another colossal cash handout of taxpayers' money to the very people who have ripped them off.

While you are paying your share of the Bailout Tax, the banks will also be collecting the interest on your mortgage, personal loan and credit card.

I applaud the National Party and Barnaby Joyce for opposing the ETS.

The ETS is more than just a tax, it is the first step in setting up a world government by signing away part of Australia's sovereignty to the UN and beginning wealth transfer to the third world.

This new movement, globalism, is the new Communism, and is well on the way to achieving what Communism could not: world governance.

The Liberal Party is moving towards the Left now, and has strayed from the conservative beliefs that are the bedrock of Australia.

I hope to see more National Party candidates standing at the next election. I will be voting for you in both Houses of Parliament.

The Nationals are the only political party that are making any sense on this issue and many others. Keep up the fight and stand up for what you believe in.

We're counting on you.

To allow the government to force an ETS on us is not only irresponsible but will cause hardship to many...as if we aren't we taxed enough as it is.
Unless the rest of the world...China and India and to some extent the US participate, there is no point in even considering an ETS on the Australian taxpayer.
His arrogance is astounding, his ignorance unbelievable and his bias is unacceptable. He has been ill informed and he needs to pull his head out of the sand and makes the correct choice for Australia.
We will suffer financial hardship while the rest of the world keeps poluting our air. If we embark on this course our effort will only be worth one drop in the whole of the pacific ocean.
Stop him before he damages this great country of ours even further.

Thank you for standing up to the bullying of Mr Rudd and his cohorts.

It is clear from research into scientists facts available for all to scrutinise on the internet, that even if the whole world adopts a tax on carbon dioxide emmissions, it will not make a difference to the climate. M. Lane:

What the Labor and Liberal governments are following is a Green Corporate Communist agenda.

What we can expect if the Copenhagen Treaty is signed is a Global Corporate Communist Government.

Policies implemented by both Labor and Liberals over the last 30 years have set us up for domination by huge corporations.

Free trade agreements have progressively kicked our farmers in the guts and forced a lot of our business people off shore. Not a single item of white goods is manufactured in this country any more, and the clothing industry has progressively disappeared to Asia over the last 20 - 30 years.

Along with the exportation of work to countries employing slave labour, we have also progressively seen huge increases in the importation of slave labour, the disempowerment of unions and a decline in working conditions.

A lot of our income producing assets and utilities have also been privatised, with money leaving our shores.

We have a huge foreign debt, racked up by both Labor and Liberals over the last 20 years. Please just check the parliamentary records.

We've almost gone broke, but what does Rudd want to do???

First he gives the banks (corporations) a huge handout of taxpayers' money as a reward for ripping off 20% or more of our superannuation savings. Then he has a plan to collect a Bank Bailout Tax for the next double whammy they clearly intend to dish up to the Western world.

We have 50 years worth of natural gas to collect via the Gorgon Project. So what does he do???

He promises to flog 95% of the gas to China for 6 cents a litre!!!

For Christ's sake!!!!

We need to get rid of Liberals, Labor and their partners in this scandalous ripoff, The Greens, as quickly as possible.

There are other parties besides Nationals which have no interest in the new national religion of Greenism (about to replace football).

At the next election, please put all of the smaller parties first, Labor last, Greens second last, and Liberals third last.

If you want a return of democracy to this country, vote small.

When are Australians going to take matters into there own hands. Start standing on your own two feet, start representing yourselves not having politicians making your decisions. We have allowed the government and the politicians to decide what we want for us for too long. When was the last time you where asked about all the laws and regulations the government puts in place. We are in this mess because most people just don’t won't do anything about it until it is too late or are just to plain lazy to fix there own back yard and take responsibility. The little people are going to hurt from global warming taxes, Global warmings just a big money making machine and you only have to read between the lines to see that. Also when is our government going to stop being a puppet for The One world Government. Oh and stop brining in more people. Australia has enough people we don't have the water, and to get the extra water we need, we end up wrecking the enviroment. Something has to break.

Michelle:

I fear we are already too late.

In the House of Reps today, Labor was very busy debunking various excellent opinions as "conspiracy theories".

Malcolm Turnbull was not given his marching orders, and now it seems clear that the ETS will be passed on Friday, whether we like it or not.

I saw a young student on the TV earlier, who said he was already studying a course in Carbon Accounting.

Trust me, plenty of people have spoken out and sent letters and emails. The government doesn't give a toss what we think. Their only interest now is in going global using their Green Tax Collector on every utility they can devise, not just Carbon.

I had a letter from Sue Boyce today, after I appealed to her for some common sense, but her head is still stuck in a cow pat. Maybe she thinks it will get rid of her wrinkles.

Poor Malcolm. He must have had quite a few manic moments over the last couple of days. See what happens when you try to screw your loaf to get what you want.

Haha. He must have been papping himself - but just like the good shyster he is, he managed to turn it round - just!! Phew! Was that a close call or what??

You see, Mr. Turnbull answers to the same paymaster as Mr. Rudd. Don't tell me you didn't know that!!

He must have thought he could win a few friends and influence people by pretending opposition (planned!*?) to the CPRS and then coming out with all those amendments. Of course he knew, throughout his shinnanigans, that a deal had to be done, even if it meant passing a very much 'watered down' scheme. Once it passes through the Senate it can't be reversed and you can all say goodbye to 'The Lucky Country'!!

You can say goodbye to the lucky country, not only because of this covert tax, but because within a very short time after the Copenhagen (Global Governance in Waiting) deal goes through, our CPRS will be overruled by their global scheme. So to the farmers of Australia I say enjoy your exclusion while you can. It won't last!!

God help us all if this goes through. I worked out that the Copenhagen Tax alone for the last week of October would have cost our business $400. At that rate we are not viable and I suspect many others will be in the same situation.

People have to realise that they will have a lower take home pay will also be levied before they start and that every transaction (in and out) will be levied at 2%. It doesn't sound like much but in real terms it will add another 2% at least to any credit card or loan repayment. Everything will go up in a horrifying hyperinflationary spiral and will lead to job losses, widespread poverty and homelessness. Then you have Kevin and Malcolm's mad ETS and all the other taxes on top.

We must stand our ground lawfully and peacefully, most importantly for our children and grandchildren who will live under this terrible burden.

Peace and grace to all.

We have been betrayed by the Liberals -- I have always supported the Libs but after the betrayal this week -- never again.

They are worse than Labor -- at least with Labor you know what to expect but why Turnbull and his cronies have to pander to Rudd's ego and pass the ETS prior to Copenhagen is beyond me -- they have let us down completely

I can only hope the Nationals will come into the urnban areas as from now on the Libs go last in the House of Reps and Senate voting sheets

This is unbelievable Barnaby, you and your party need to take advantage of the opportunity and field candidates everywhere, K Rudd let's call him for what he is "a meglomaniac" the likes of which we have never seen before.

I can tell you I have never voted Labor always Liberal, as far as I'm concerned the traitors who have signed off on the ETS are also DEAD, politically they will be remembered for yesterday...SHAME SHAME SHAME.

As for the Australian Press they are traitors and along with Rudd should be arrested for treason...TRAITORS TRAITORS TRAITORS

As for Mr Turnbull he's sold out where is our democracy it's been stolen from us yesterday.

We got rid of one government before and with everyone banding together we can do it again.

Thank you for your voice, you are the one Australians are turning to keep going.

If I or my friends can be of any help let me know.

Dear Mr Joyce,
Would you please convince the Liberals in the Senate to vote NO! I can't quite believe there are Liberals that support the evil Labour Government and the equally evil Labour Prime Minister. Would you please consider standing National Party candidates in all Federal seats to give the once staunch Liberal voter another option, as I would never lower myself to vote for the Labour Party.
You are doing a fantastic job, unlike the traitors who walk the corridors of the Federal Parliament House.

I have no issue with addressing climate change. But this is a global issue which has to be addressed globally. For Australia to go it alone is nothing more that an ego trip for Kevin Rudd. As a country we are still recovering from a global financial crisis and here we are about to put further strain on an very delicate economy. I voted labor at the last election however, if this goes through in it's current form I will not be voting Labor again. Having said that if the Liberal Party is going to rubber stamp this tax then it looks like I'll be voting either independant or informal ...

I am 64 years old, am a member of a professional family and have voted Liberal all my life. I am absolutely disgusted at the Liberal position on the ETA. I find it ridiculous that increasing the cost of living to cover this tax is going to do anything to change the world's emmissions. All it is going to do is put Kevin in a better position to become leader of the UN. I cant believe how angry myself and my family are over this matter. I will no longer vote Liberal and in all conscience cannot vote Labour. I would be very pleased if you would consider putting National candidates into any seats you are able. If you handle this situation properly, maybe the Nationals will be the senior member of the coalition. As long as Malcolm Turnbull is leader they are just an extension of the ALP and I now realise Tony Abbot is only covering his own backside.
# Laurie Labbad

I have always voted Liberal but never again whilst Malcolm Turnbull is in charge. If he wants to be a Kevin supporter then he should join the Labor Party and leave the Liberal leadership to someone who will listen to the people. Someone who will ensure himself of all the facts and by qualified people before taking upon himself to make such serious decisions effecting the livlihood of so many people based on so little fact.

For the people who are voting at the bi-election in Brendan Nelson's old seat of Bradfield on 5 December, might I suggest you number the candidates in the following order to get rid of Liberals and others who are distinctly "Green" or weird? There is no Labor candidate running, thank goodness.

DLP (Democratic Labor Party)
ON (One Nation)
IND (Independent, Anti-Climate Change)
Sex Party (not sure of initials)
AD (Australian Democrats)
GR (Greens)
LIB (Liberals)

The first 3 candidates are 100% against any Climate Change agenda or legislation.

I put Liberals last because the seat has been strongly held by them. The Greens are second last due to their extreme Climate Change agenda (and worse).

The Australian Democrats used to be okay, but now they are as Green as Grass.

No, I've changed my mind. Put The Greens last. They are far more financially and environmentally dangerous than Liberals.

WHY DO WE NEED A NEW TAX? TO PAY RUDDS RECKLESS SPENDING BACK?

It is easy to improve the environment in Australia responsibly with simple and easy measures.

- Utilise the Australia Standards, amended yearly to improve emissions. The costs to consumers will be competitive because every product entering and manufacture in Australia must meet the Australia Standards.

- Plant trees along our river systems. These trees will store carbon, make oxygen, support bird life and reduce water evaporation.

- Install water tanks to every house in Australia to flush toilets, supply washing machines and water gardens.

- Build fast train networks around Australia. Like Sydney to Newcastle. Sydney to Hobart via Canberra and Melbourne. If we can build the Harbour Bridge, then we can build a rail tunnel under Bass Strait.

- Install solar panels on every house to add energy to the electricity grid.

- Install solar hot water panels to every house and business.

- Build wind farms to add energy to the electricity grid.

- Use our ocean currents to produce electricity.

- Utilise the heat stored in the earth’s core to produce steam to drive power stations.

IF WE USE THE ENERGY FROM THE SUN THAN LESS HEAT WILL BE TRAPED IN THE ATMOSPHERE.

IF RUDD WAS SERIOUS ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT HE WOULD HAVE SPEND THE $300,000,000,000 ON MEASURES LIKE THOSE LISTED ABOVE.

Please tell your fellow Senators that the people of Australia want them to stop this ETS idiocy!! We need ALL of the Nationals, and all of the Liberals to make this stop. If this (undemocratic) guilliotine vote can be instituted by the PM when the Senate is still debating the ETS in order to overrule the people of this great nation, then we are in more trouble than anyone can guess!!!

Please do whatever you can to stop the govt making this decision that will have a huge effect on all our lives. Please keep up the fight on our behalf. Please ensure a vote against the ETS. No harm nor any benefit for the environment will be gained by a least a delay in introduction of the ETS. Discarding the ETS would be the preferred option.

Exempting Argiculture from any ETS is no exemption at all when we will still be hit and hit hard by this useless tax. We are already "behind the eight ball" because the other countries subsidies their farmers and pay them well. We are feeding Australia and the world.

Hi, I signed your petition yesterday along with thousands of others and I am sure if a referendum was called the ETS would be resoundingly beaten.

I emailed Alan Jones shortly after to "vent my spleen". In the email I expressed my belief that the twp party political system in Australia is now like the Coles v Woolworths duopoly. The lines have become so blurred there is no clear competitiion or alternative government. The groundswell of support for the National party to split with the Liberals and create a true and meaningful opposition, or indeed ANY third party to stand up and offer a change is becoming a tidal wave in my opinion.
# Lorikeet
Friday, November 27, 2009 6:14 AM
I expect Malcolm Turnbull will be rolled as leader of Liberals on Monday. A lot of them are backing down on the ETS due to voter backlash. Good work!

People often speak of the Duopoly in government of Labor/Liberals, but we must not lose touch with the fact that they are following the agenda of The Greens.

Green ideology has been pushed in this country for about 30 years, about the same length of time that the federal government has been working towards a Global Government.

My prediction is that some politicians will cross to The Greens, and they will become a large and powerful party, according to The Plan. They will manage to gain a lot of new members from the very young, who have been heavily indoctrinated with the Climate Change farce since they were toddlers.

This indoctrination has taken place under both Labor and Liberal governments. Both of those parties have also racked up a huge foreign debt which is very sadly to our detriment, and limited our power base as a nation. When they point the finger at one another, both sides are being truthful.

Even if the ETS doesn't get up this time, the parliament will put it up again and again until it is passed.

Even if agriculture is excluded initially, legislation can be amended by the parliament at any time to change it to something significantly different.

According to a person on Steve Fielding's blog, we have a significant problem with voter inaction on a visible basis.

If you live in or near Canberra, please get down to Parliament House and start making a noise.

Dear Barnaby,
Please add my name +++ to object to ETS legislation.
This legislation is appalling and incurs great hardship on families and pensioners. What is even more offensive it that the prime Minister and Penny Wong have incorporated into the legislation Federal Government tax exemption. This makes a mockery of their environmental credentials.
As you are aware I have had support from Labour over many years although I was a national. It is also disgraceful that the Prime Minister has backed the Premier on privatisation.
Not only are the Liberals guttered on this legislation but so is Labour.
By the way if Tony Abbott becomes leader, of which the Labour Government hopes so they have polled and it is even worse under him because of his behaviour which has been unforgiveable. The wider community does vote on separation of Church and State. I interact constantly with many denominations within the community and they have said they would vote for me hands down over the tony Abbott's of this world.
Don't expect the Jewish or Islamic vote with him.

Everybody has to stand back and take a deep breath and really debate this issue and then we can all see the shortcoming in the incumbent government’s argument for this tax. Or why Rudd is so desperate to introduce it???

Good on you Barnaby.

I have now come to the coclusion that the leading Left-Right wing Labour-Liberal 'democratic' image is just that; an image.

These 2 parties are now non-partisan.

They are selling the sovereignty of a once free nation to the globalists and their visions of one-world-feudalism for 30 pieces of silver.

These people are traitors to this country. I mean that.

The time for shrinking from controversy is OVER. We the people need to gain back control of parliament.

This globalism will end up forcing Australia down the path to a Republic. The monarchist financial interests and their United Nations Feudal System which is being positioned for world government NEEDS TO END NOW.

I will be keeping an ey out for what Barnaby does in future and if he continues to actually support the people of Australia then he can count on my vote in future.

NATIONALS: Stop giving preference to the Liberals... But then again I feel sorry for the fact you don't have much choice with only Rupert Murdochs' Kevin and the now openly globalist Greens to go to.

Is Australias Political territory this openly barren of politicians who have a soul like Barnaby?

When Kevin Rudd or other members of the labor party criticize anyone opposed to the ETS as "climate change sceptics", he is really showing his lack of basic knowledge of the scientific method. Some of the fundamental principles of science are logic, evidence and SCEPTICISM. As an enthusiast of science, it infuriates me how a man with such power can be so illiterate.

I am so angry about this emissions tax which Rudd is forcing, in indecent haste, on the citizens of Australia. Especially, as there is no advantage in reduction of emissions worldwide, by Australia implementing this tax now, before other nations, who are greater polluters, show any intention to reduce emissions.

I can only compare the actions of Rudd and his government with those of a communistic regime. No one is offered any chance to debate the issue. To show doubt about the clearly pseudo science behind the computer models on which the ETS is based, is to be ridiculed and/or vilified. So far no one has been incarcerated, but, given time and further power, who knows with Rudd's communistic leanings may bring!

Thank goodness for your voice of sanity, Barnaby.

Regards,
Mary

Please STOP the ETS. I do not like the way the LABOR govt did not tell us about the high personal expense that every Australian will have to bear if this goes through. I especially do not like the thought of Australia giving away some of its authority to a group within the EU or UN who can pose heavy fines on our country. I do not like the plan for Australians to be fines for "producing too much carbon emission". I doubt that China will accept any of this. Why should we ? If China says no we will look after our own then so should Australia say the same. Regardless of the Turnbull saga, please stop the ETS................................. Thanks Kevin

Hi Barnaby,

Are we sure that the Libs and Nationals have enough votes to reject the ETS on Monday/Tuesday ?

Who in the Liberals support the ETS ?

Keep up the good work.

Sen.Barnaby,
I am very pleased for your stand against the ETS...I am greatly concerned about the ordinary working families...many are struggling now let alone the future rises to come with this ETS...
My prayer is that GOD will over-rule the final decision on Mon-Tues? and I would like the Nats. to join up with the Libs..
I will be voting for them come next elections....Nita

I would like to tackle this issue of Australia having the highest per capita emissions. It is said we are putting out 15% of total greenhouse gases.

As a friend in her 80s quite rightly pointed out, Australia is a far flung, drought-afflicted nation, perhaps even the driest continent in the world. Not only are we far flung from one another, but from most of the other countries, being surrounded by sea.

Our food, textile and mineral resources have to be trucked, trained or shipped over large distances. Some products (even mail) have to be sent by plane. The same occurs if we need to visit far flung relatives or attend important business meetings interstate.

I think our level of emissions should be calculated based on our total land mass and population, taking into account the above, before any of these Smart Alecs accuse us of anything.

If we lived in Central Europe or a small African, Central American or Asian nation, the cost of moving resources and people around would be infinitesimal by comparison.

The biggest emitter is China at 55% of total, with the USA not far behind. They should be cleaning up their mess, before pointing the finger at anyone else. Until their mess is clean, we should simply put our feet up and rest our case.

I feel that Mr Turnbull has not advised or explained to the people of Australia
the full detail of inflicting an ETS upon us.
At least, we should wait until the Summit in Copenhagen to find out how
other world leaders feel.
I realise we need to address gas emissions, but ours are small compared to
China, USA, UK, Russia etc., etc.,
I appreciate being able to speak on the matter in this way

I would like to know when the Australian Government explained to the Australian people as a community what the scheme is and what the cost will be to each family. Let us face reallity. The climate is changed by Mother Nature. Will the ETS give the Government the power to override Nature? Can I expect rain or sunshine on request from big Kevin once the ETS is passed? Will we no longer have natural disasters in Australia such as drought, flood, storms etc and can it be assumed that all the money saved from the obselence of rescue services, drought or flood subsidies will now be diverted to the big energy moguls?
Keep up the pressure and either throw the ETS out or postpone it so that the Australian community can make an informed decision rather than a few 'pollies'.

Firstly, if people are not prepared to accept the findings of the vast majority of respected climate scientists, and the ample evidence around us, then I think that they just don't want to believe that human induced climate change is real, at everyone's peril.
Secondly, even if you and your rebels don't believe in human induced climate change, don't you think you should take precautions to reduce the risk for your constituents? If so, what alternatives would you propose to the CPRS? How will you bring the rest of the world on board?

Martin Cousins:

I don't worry too much about the so-called science, because the whole idea of mankind being able to fathom, let alone fix, all of the extremely complex interactions of various elements that make up our planet is extremely arrogant.

Whoever created the Earth and all of its components (whether animal, vegetable or mineral), is the only person/entity/deity who knows how it can be fixed.

For years, I have been fed up to the back teeth with scientists who think they can outdo Mother Nature or God. When creatures are on the verge of extinction, someone always wants to interfere and "resurrect" them. Worse still is when they say some creature is on the verge of extinction, when it isn't. More likely, it is wiping out the orchards so we can have nothing to eat.

Look at all of the stuff-ups scientists have created, including the development of the contraceptive pill. Just that alone has done our society a lot of damage due to disruption of the Age Pyramid, the scope for selfishness and greed to take over, and worst of all, the opportunity to rack up a huge foreign debt (think banks and credit).

As for the person who said he/she had been waiting 13 years for everyone else to catch up, I have now been waiting for 30 years!

As soon as the government suggested that we had to become part of the Asia/Pacific Region, over which there was a very loud hue and cry from the general populace (ignored by those in power), I knew we would be in for plenty of economic trouble.

Martin Cousins:

If Senator Joyce did as you expect, he would be joining an increasingly large band of Green communist lunatics, who do not mind if we are ruled under Global Corporate Socialism.

The whole issue is about the Financial Climate, and taking away even more of our share. We have a gross foreign debt in excess of $1.2 trillion. Now that's something we need to take action on - NOT give huge corporations even more.

If the CPRS is passed, we will be completely financially broken. Is that what you really want?

Do you think we should go to Copenhagen with a CPRS in place, while everyone else elects to twiddle their thumbs? How stupid is that?

Well, here is Julia Gillard's take on the electorate, as per this morning's "Insiders" program.

It is her job to show leadership. She knows what is best for Australia. Apparently she doesn't give a rat's backside what 21 million people think of the CPRS at all.

It's bad enough when we have to put up with ideas which come from East Bumcrack, or even any direction of Bumcrack (not excluding the Brown Bumcrack).

It seems we also have to put up with the kind of voter exclusion which we would only expect to see coming from a Dictator from Northern Screw Loose.

Climate change data dumped

SCIENTISTS at the University of East Anglia (UEA) have admitted throwing away much of the raw temperature data on which their predictions of global warming are based.
It means that other academics are not able to check basic calculations said to show a long-term rise in temperature over the past 150 years.
The UEA’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU) was forced to reveal the loss following requests for the data under Freedom of Information legislation.
The data were gathered from weather stations around the world and then adjusted to take account of variables in the way they were collected. The revised figures were kept, but the originals — stored on paper and magnetic tape — were dumped to save space when the CRU moved to a new building.
The admission follows the leaking of a thousand private emails sent and received by Professor Phil Jones, the CRU’s director. In them he discusses thwarting climate sceptics seeking access to such data.
In a statement on its website, the CRU said: “We do not hold the original raw data but only the value-added (quality controlled and homogenised) data.”
The CRU is the world’s leading centre for reconstructing past climate and temperatures. Climate change sceptics have long been keen to examine exactly how its data were compiled. That is now impossible.
Roger Pielke, professor of environmental studies at Colorado University, discovered data had been lost when he asked for original records. “The CRU is basically saying, ‘Trust us’. So much for settling questions and resolving debates with science,” he said.
Jones was not in charge of the CRU when the data were thrown away in the 1980s, a time when climate change was seen as a less pressing issue. The lost material was used to build the databases that have been his life’s work, showing how the world has warmed by 0.8C over the past 157 years.
He and his colleagues say this temperature rise is “unequivocally” linked to greenhouse gas emissions generated by humans. Their findings are one of the main pieces of evidence used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which says global warming is a threat to humanity.

Think about the absurdity of the whole worlds oceans rising even one metre.

We have not been around long enough on earth to know that is not just a cycle of ice melts and hot?cold weather changes. The TREES NEED CARBON TO LIVE.

Lets just wait a while, do research and talk sensibly about "Climate Change" no one on earth can do a thing about it if this is a 10,000 pattern/cycle.

Tony Abbott / Shara Palin !

Tony and Shara ?

The similarities are uncanny !

BOTH

Climate denialists
Christian fundamentalists.
Right to lifers.
Anti euthenasia.
and mad as a cut snake.
etc..

One ultimately fragments and then destroys the Republican Party while it looks like you will eventually succeeded in doing the same to the Liberal Party Tony that we love so much.

I guess you must be comparing Tony Abbott with Sarah Palin.

What you said about Abbott mostly sounded okay by me. The opposite would be much worse for our society.

"Mad as a cut snake" only means he is angry, possibly with Climate Change idiots who do not mind being cut down by a Global Communist Government.

I believe that Labor only needs 7 votes for this to pass on Monday and be enacted in the middle of 2011 ! so there is need to hurry with this legislation at all, except to enhance the prestige of Kevin Rudd prior to Copenhagen and perhaps capture public opinion before the mood changes. But it is already changing and very rapidly. This is proving to be a very interesting weekend.

Well people, here is the scary thing.

Someone who has been in the Senate for 11 years, and is going to run for The Greens in the seat of Brisbane at the upcoming federal election, says he cannot see a link between empowerment and industrialisation of the third world and de-industrialisation of Australia.

He also cannot see a link between deliberate destruction of the Australian economy and the empowerment of banks.

I am currently doing my best to educate this university educated person, who has sat in the parliament for 11 years and still not learned very much at all!

He also supports Oxfam in their bid to extract $17,000,000,000 from our grossly depleted coffers EACH YEAR! That's $17 billion. Maybe this is so we can have "deleted coffers".

I guess he has not noticed that Irene Khan is from Sri Lanka!
