Senator Joyce is today in Brisbane visiting the Brisbane Markets at Rocklea, which are still running at only 50 per cent capacity due to the direct damage caused by the floods, the destruction of agricultural produce on farms and the interruption of supply on the damaged roads in between.
"The flooded town of St George, the devastation of Brisbane, and the damaged roads, farms and mines in between, shows that we are all in this together. I am sure that both sides of politics want to see us get out of this and back on our feet as quickly as possible."
Senator Joyce said, "You only need a very small hole in the tyre and the whole car stops."
"Those who think that floods are something that happen only on television are about to see them happen in their supermarkets."
"Agriculture in vital areas of Australia has been devastated and the price of fresh produce could easily go through the roof.
"People have to be tolerant of lower grades because we have to be sure that the Australian agriculture industry gets back on its feet as early as possible.
"Importing our green produce requires strong thought as to whether we would be encouraging a long-term alternate supply source to that of Australian produce.
"We need to make sure that Australian farms are back online producing clean, green Australian produce for Australian tables as quickly as possible."
