Senator Barnaby Joyce has once again called for Water Minister, Senator Penny Wong, to release the guide to the Murray Darling Basin Plan immediately and finally end continuing uncertainty for irrigators.
“The Murray-Darling Basin Authority's announcement that the plan would not be released until October 8 continues the uncertainty for irrigators and farming communities,” Senator Joyce said today.
“The Coalition has continued to demand for the guide to be made public to stop the ongoing doubt faced by irrigators and communities that will be directly affected by decisions within this plan.
"Senator Wong has run out of excuses. She took 18 months to establish the Authority and now the release of the draft plan has been delayed on three separate occasions.
“It now appears that the guide will not be released until it is politically convenient for Labor.
"During the election, Senator Wong even went as far to say that she would accept any Plan that the MDBA formulated, even though the Water Act 2007 specifically gives the Minister the ability to review it first.
"Such an approach is not surprising from a Minister who only a few months ago said everyone will feel pain from the Basin Plan.
“We will release the Murray Darling Basin Plan within two weeks, if we form government” Senator Joyce said.
