Barnaby Joyce, the Nationals leader in the Senate, helped trigger the rebellion within Coalition ranks against emissions trading. He says it's a great big new tax on the economy with zero environmental benefit. He's also had thousands of signatures on a petition against the ETS, many of the Liberals who resigned yesterday said their phones had been running hot with grassroots protest from their electorates.
