A BIG STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION FOR BREEZA

Senator Joyce said today that he welcomed the announcement by BHP that they will enter into license conditions;
1.      To ban long wall mining underneath the deep alluvial irrigation aquifers,
2.      To ban long wall mining underneath the floodplain and
3.      To ban open cut mining on the floodplain.
This is in regard to all aspects associated with their mining lease on the Breeza Plains, Northern New South Wales.

Senator Joyce and the Nationals have worked very hard on this issue with BHP and others, and welcome the response by the company. Although we acknowledge it does not make all people happy, or resolve all issues, it is a huge step in the right direction.

The next question is whether the Labor Party Minister Ian MacDonald can extract the same likeness in conditions from Shenhua operating in the same area of the Liverpool Plains.
