“The Foreign Investment Review Board inquiry has been collecting evidence from people such as Professor Peter Drysdale from the ANU stating there is an arms length relationship between State owned entities and the Chinese Government.”
“The disappearance and arrest of Australian passport holder Mr Stern Hu by the Communist People’s Republic of China’s Public Security Bureau, over the weekend, shows that the relationship is anything but arms length and there are repercussions of a slight to a State owned entity that will be pursued by the Chinese Government in proper”, according to Senator Barnaby Joyce.
“Chinalco’s failure to buy 18 percent ownership of Rio would appear to have inspired Mr Hu’s arrest and that of three other Rio workers. So far Australian consular officials have been unable to make direct contact with Mr Hu.”
“This should be a clear example to Australia, and other countries around the world, of the extent of the relationship between a 100 percent owned entity in the People’s Republic of China and the actions of the Chinese Government. The two are one in the same in ownership, in action, in purpose. A check in the progress of one has ramifications far beyond a purely commercial arrangement with a corporate entity on the stock market.”
“The reality is far more potent than rhetoric. Mr Stern Hu and the other three workers being held by the Chinese government is the reality of the relationship of these forms of State owned entities” says Senator Joyce.
“This should be a sobering wake up call for all Australians.”
