“The exponential increase in utility prices such as electricity, gas, and water means that real pressures are being placed on working families which is the result of this Labor Government’s mismanagement,” says Senator Barnaby Joyce who is today in the Lismore area with the Nationals candidate for Page, Kevin Hogan. This is part of his ongoing national ‘straight talking tour’ of electorates.

“Real electricity prices have gone up by an average over 10 per cent a year since Rudd was elected. In contrast, real electricity prices went up by an average of less than 1 per cent a year during the last Coalition Government. Changes in water and gas prices show similar differences”.
“The basic fundamental delivery promise of the Labor Government at the last election was that the cost of living would be reduced; in fact it has gone through the roof. Now we have the massive Labor debt currently in excess of $138 billion putting upward pressure on interest rates and a massive new tax on the mining industry putting real pressure on jobs. Power industry leaders are today warning that the tax on mining profits will increase power prices to households and businesses. The ETS has been stuck in the broom cupboard ready to be brought out the moment the Labor party gets past an election, which I hope dearly for the sake of Australia, they don’t win.”
“The Labor party is borrowing in excess of $1 billion per week. This cannot go on, but it does have to be repaid. If you are reading this, and you are in Australia, and you pay tax, you are the one who is going to repay it.”
“What has Australia got during the term of this Labor Government? In opposition you usually treasure certain stuff ups by the Government to capitalise on and create maximum effect, but this Labor Government is making opposition a cake walk.”
“Every day a new stuff up - school halls that are ripping the tax payer off, houses burning down from a ludicrous insulation package, a new mining tax that has affected international share markets but in the wrong direction, purchase of water licenses at massive premiums above what they are worth from a single family, whilst other families do not even get their letters replied to.”
“If you had accused the Labor party of this sort of incompetence prior to the last election they would have had good grounds to take you to court for defamation. It is astonishing how badly they have stuffed things up and people are rightly asking how we could possibly leave them here for another 3 years.”
