Congratulations to Anna Bligh, who is the first female state premier in Australia elected in her own right. Congratulations also to all the new members of parliament. It would have been a miracle for the LNP to win government at the March 21 poll as it was starting from such a low base. But we have picked up seats and we are on a process towards victory. We got a swing of 4% and in a Federal poll, that would give us five or six extra Queensland seats. People might be disappointed that we didn't win but we have to be realists and say that from where we started it was never likely that we would have an LNP win. But we've shown that the LNP works. There was strong campaigning and we have picked up seats. I want to commend Lawrence Springborg and his wife Linda for all their hard work. Luckily, there is no shortage of talent from which to choose a new LNP leader in Queensland.
