Senator Joyce welcomed the decision of the High Court to allow the property rights advocate, Peter Spencer, to proceed further down the judicial path in ascertaining farmers' right of ownership over private property.
“As a supporter of Peter Spencer's cause, but not wanting Peter Spencer to ever do harm to himself, I fought for and achieved a Senate inquiry which made unanimous recommendations on the problems emerging from existing native vegetation laws,” Senator Joyce said today.
“Peter received a mass of support from the general public as he focused Australia’s eyes on the fact that many landowners had an asset taken from them by the government without payment. In the process they have been left with all the expenses pertaining to that stolen asset as if they still owned it.
“This process was totally and utterly unfair and now the court must deliberate over how this came about and whether the process was truly legal.
“I wish Peter Spencer all the best and congratulate him on his perseverance to continue to pursue this cause through the proper venue, which is the courts,” Senator Joyce said.
