Media Releases - Agriculture

24

We don’t want the risk of Mad Cow Disease in our herds. We don’t have it, we’re healthy, we’re green and we want to stay that way and the consumers, do not want to pick up meat from the shelf which may have come from a country with Mad Cow Disease.

The Minister for Agriculture, Tony Burke has decided that this is OK on his own. He has refused to conduct an import risk assessment. He has refused to demand that countries that are currently banned from importing beef into Australia because they have had BSE outbreaks have the same protocols demanded from Australian beef producers.
We need to keep the consumers confident that they are eating clean green Australian beef.

The Coalition will introduce a Private Members Bill into both Chambers of Parliament to protect Australians and our beef industry.
