FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce has congratulated the Uralla Men’s Shed on receiving a $14,000 grant under the Stronger Communities Programme.

Mr Joyce said the Mien’s Shed organisation played an important role in communities like Uralla and other centres across the Electorate.

“The Men’s Shed is a great place for retired men and women to gather and undertake hobbies and crafts in a supportive atmosphere,” Mr Joyce said.

“It also provides a venue for matters like men’s health – both physical and mental – can be discussed.

Uralla Men’s Shed President, Reverend Gordon Stewart, welcomed the news of the grant and said the members would enjoy the extra space apart from the current home which was the old Uralla Scout Hall.

He said the grant would be used to supply and lay a cement slab on a site which would provide the organisation a shed which they could install heavier woodworking equipment like wood-planing machines and lathes.
