FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said Stage 1 funding of up to $2,380,064 is about to be delivered to the Armidale Dumaresq Council under the Community Development Grants Programme.

The funding is for Stage 1 of the Armidale Airport upgrade which will deliver the apron extension, upgrade of runway lighting and new parallel taxiway.

“This funding approval partially delivers on a 2013 election commitment in the New England Electorate,” Mr Joyce said.

The project is to be delivered in two stages, with stage two delivering the terminal expansion and car park extension. Almost $1.3 million would be invested in the stage 2 of the upgrade.

“Every dollar we spend, we have to deliver with,” Mr Joyce said.

“That’s why we’re investing almost $3.7 million which will be spent on upgrading this important piece of regional infrastructure. It is a promise we made in the lead-up to the election and now we are delivering,” he said.

Provision of funding is dependent on the preparation and execution by both parties of a Funding Agreement that sets out the terms and conditions under which the funding is provided, and the settling of other details, including the requirement to provide evidence of the final costs for the new parallel taxiway.
