New England to receive 172 more aged care places

08 Mar 2019

A total of 172 new residential aged care places will be provided in the region, Federal Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, announced today.

The new residential places will provide a welcome boost to aged care services in Tamworth and Tenterfield and are part of the Coalition Government’s record funding and expansion of aged care.

Tamworth Aged Care, operated by Signature Care, will receive 144 new residential places meanwhile Haddington Nursing Home, operated by Tenterfield Care Centre, will receive an extra 28 places.

“Tamworth and Tenterfield are among many regional, rural and remote regions across Australia that will benefit, with almost 40 per cent of all new residential aged care places allocated to non-metropolitan areas,” Mr Joyce said.

“Every one of these new places will mean local seniors and their families can have more confidence, knowing they have future care options in locations as close as possible to the communities they are familiar with.

“I congratulate the Tamworth Aged Care and Tenterfield Care Centre on securing these new aged care places and I look forward to seeing the benefits of this funding flow to our community.”

About $907 million a year will go into providing a record 13,500 new residential aged care places across Australia – plus $60 million capital works investment to finance construction of new and extended aged care homes.

The Coaltion Government is boosting annual aged care investment by $5.5 billion, with annual funding to grow from $18.1 billion to $23.6 billion a year by 2022-23.
