New England Electorate to benefit from Federal Government Small Business support
20 Feb 2015
SMALL Businesses in the New England Electorate will be able to take advantage of enhanced advisory services with a grant of $660,000, the Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said.
Mr Joyce said the Minister for Small Business, Bruce Billson has announced the successful applicants under the Australian Small Business Advisory Service (ASBAS) Programme Business Solutions 2014 round.
He said the Armidale and District Business Enterprise Centre Limited had been successful in gaining the $660,000 grant which would help it to service local government areas like Armidale Dumaresq, Glen Innes Severn, Gunnedah, Gwydir, Inverell, Liverpool Plains, Moree Plains, Narrabri, Tamworth Regional, Tenterfield, Uralla and Walcha.
“Local communities in the New England Electorate know small businesses are the engine room of our economy. That is why I am working to ensure small businesses – whatever their stage of start-up or expansion – have access to professional and low cost advice,” Mr Joyce said.
Mr Joyce said both the Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the Minister for Small Business Bruce Billson have clearly shown that our government is committed to ensuring Australia can become the best place to build and grow a small business.
Under the ASBAS Business Solutions 2014 round successful applicants will be funded to increase their capacity to deliver five advisory services to small business:
Funding avenues and financial analysis;
Building your business;
Making the most of your talent and team;
Management capabilities; and
Digital engagement implementation.
The Government will work with the successful advisory service providers to enter into a funding agreement, and anticipates that providers will commence delivering advice to small businesses in March 2015.
The Business Chamber’s Chief Executive Officer, Mike Creagan said the grant was a god-send and would provide a significant component of the organisation’s infrastructure.
“We’ll be able to use this money to provide people in the New England and North West new opportunities to advance their businesses,” he said.
