  • Nominations close 3 March, 2017

Entries are now open for the Coalition Government’s annual awards for innovative local government projects.

Minister for Local Government and Territories, Fiona Nash has invited local governments to nominate for the 2017 National Awards for Local Government (NALG).

“These awards recognise innovative projects which provide new or improved local government services,” Minister Nash said.

“Through these awards, the Government celebrates the ‘best of the best’ local government projects which range from infrastructure and regional growth to art.

“I encourage all local governments to submit projects that contribute to building stronger and vibrant communities.”

The national winner of the 2016 Awards was Mackay Regional Council in Queensland for their Transforming a Water Business project.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said councils interested in nominating their projects have until 3 March, 2017.

“That gives all New England Electorate councils just weeks to nominate any projects which they believe align with the NALG’s judging criteria,” Mr Joyce said.

Councils have the opportunity to nominate under a wide range of categories including boosting productivity through Infrastructure or contributing to regional growth.

More information about the awards, and how to submit an entry, is available at: www.infrastructure.gov.au/nalg.

Category winners will be announced in mid-April, 2017 and the national winner will be announced at the Australian Local Government Association National General Assembly dinner in June, 2017.

Nominations for the 2017 NALG close on 3 March, 2017.
