FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said he enjoyed the opportunity to get a briefing on the latest progress of the Tenterfield Heavy Vehicle Bypass and the Bolivia Hill Realignment from the Tenterfield Shire Council’s Mayor, Peter Petty and General Manager Lotta Jackson.

Mr Joyce said a planning proposal has been adopted by the Council for a Gateway Determination for the road alignment that will be included in Council’s Local Environmental Plan so that the land can be reserved for future road construction and provide planning certainty for Council and the community.

“The Orange corridor has been selected as the preferred route for the Bypass. This project is part of a $6 million commitment from the Australian Government for the planning of the bypass and the Bolivia Hill upgrade,” he said.

Mayor Petty and Ms Jackson also provided an update on the progress of the Bolivia Hill realignment project.

“The concept design, including the bridge, is about 80 per cent complete. They say the design will be completed by December 15. The alignment is a cantilever bridge, with only two piers, that will be constructed from either end to meet in the middle.

“The Review of Environmental Factors [REF] is expected to go on public exhibition on 15 October in Tenterfield and on 16 October in Glen Innes with approval of the REF by December.

Mr Joyce said Ms Jackson said there was no need for any Federal referral for the REF in regard to Bolivia Hill Wattle species or Native Quolls, as they had been managed successfully within the design of the project.

“The Council say the aim is for fast tracking the detailed design, expected to begin in January 2016,” he said.
