Appointment will be growing stronger regions across the state, says Joyce

13 July 2015

FEDERAL Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce said the appointment of Ian Lobsey OAM as the Regional Deputy Chair of the Regional Development Australia (RDA) Northern Inland was a boost for the region.

Mr Joyce said the announcement by the Australian Government of the three-year appointment will provide leadership to RDA Northern Inland to develop a model where all three tiers of government work together.

“I welcome the appointment of Ian Lobsey OAM as Deputy Chair of Northern Inland RDA” Mr Joyce said. “He brings a great deal of experience and local knowledge to the table.”

“The RDA committees will play an important role in linking local, state and federal governments to address critical issues in our region. They will also help in guiding community groups and local stakeholders to access public or private funding opportunities, including the Australian Government’s $1 billion National Stronger Regions Fund.”

Mr Joyce said RDA Northern Inland was based in the electorates of New England and Parkes and is made up of committee members from across the region.

Regional Development Australia consists of a national network of 55 committees designed to strongly focus on regional economic development and facilitate local projects that aim to make a difference in their local communities.

The Chair and Deputy Chair of RDANI will now move promptly to appoint a team of active local community leaders to support them. Mr Joyce thanked retiring committee Chairs and members for their service and wished the new committees well as they work to deliver stronger local regions.
