2019-20 Volunteer Grants closing soon in the New England

08 Jan 2020

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, is urging eligible community groups to apply now for a share in more than $60,000 in funding to support volunteer organisations across the electorate.

The 2019-20 Volunteer Grants program forms part of the Coalition Government’s commitment to supporting organisations whose volunteers assist communities and encourage the inclusion of vulnerable people in our society.

“Grants can be used to buy small equipment for volunteers, for the reimbursement of volunteer fuel costs as well as transport and training expenses for volunteers,” Mr Joyce said.

“Previous grants in the New England have included kitchen equipment for fundraising activities by Ellerston Public School P&C, new air conditioning at the Murrurundi Rescue Squad building, coaching and umpiring equipment for bowlers at Tingha Sport and Recreation Bowling Club and a portable PA system for Bonshaw Memorial Hall.

“Community groups can apply for between $1,000 and $5,000 but hurry as nominations close with my office at 5pm on 7 February 2020.”

Each Federal Member of Parliament is able to nominate organisations to apply for funding in their electorate. The Department of Social Services will then send an application form to nominated organisations to apply for funding in February 2020. Successful applicants will be announced in May 2020.
