Awards for business support of ADF and reserves

23 Sep 2019

Businesses in the New England are being encouraged to nominate for the 2020 Prime Minister Veterans’ Employment Awards.

Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said the awards represent an opportunity to recognise and celebrate businesses of all sizes which employ or support veterans of the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

“Many people are probably not aware of the direct and indirect presence of the ADF here in the New England,” Mr Joyce said.

“From the civilian employers who support army reserve members’ commitments at Hunter River Lancers’ units in our region, to BAE Systems Australia which has helped trained military pilots at Tamworth Airport.

“This is a chance to be recognised as an industry leader in supporting veteran employment by nominating for these prestigious awards.”

Members of the ADF gain an extensive range of skills, abilities and attributes that make them valuable employees in businesses and organisations throughout the community.

The awards are part of the broader Prime Minister’s Veterans’ Employment Program, which is aimed at supporting veterans’ employment and building an understanding in the broader community of the valuable skills of ADF personnel.

Veterans and businesses are supported by the recently re-launched Veterans’ Employment website, which has a brand new toolkit to assist ADF personnel transitioning to civilian employment, and tips for businesses looking to hire them.

Nominations for the awards are now open online and will close on 22 October 2019, with finalists announced in early 2020. Click here to apply.
