FEDERAL Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has welcomed an important community event to be held in Manilla on Wednesday where more can be learned about what support is available during drought and tough times.

Has the Dust Settled is a meeting for the community of Manilla and its surrounds to learn more about the support available during the drought and tough times.

The night will cover concessional loans; animal health; how to look after yourself and your family; marketing livestock; and financial education for the future.

“Events like one planned in Manilla are important in these dry times and even we’ve had some light falls of rain in the area today, there are many more people who are still coping with drought,” Mr Joyce said.

Mr Joyce said the Federal Government’s decision this week to extend the transition period for recipients of Interim Farm Household Allowance to complete their applications to transfer to the ongoing Farm Household Allowance (FHA) was another example to help farming families to avoid their payments ceasing.

He said farming families receiving the Interim Farm Household Allowance now have until 14 August 2014 to apply for the Australian Government’s income support measure to avoid being out-of-pocket.

The event, which will be held in the Imperial Hotel, Manilla from 6pm to 8.30pm is supported by a number of groups including the Rural Financial Counselling Service NSW Northern Region, Medicare Local New England, the Rural Adversity Mental Health Program, the NSW Department of Primary industries, Centacare New England North West.

The event is part of the Australian Government’s drought assistance package.

Anyone planning to attend the event should RSVP by Monday, 21 July to Stephanie on 6766 1394.
