Joyce announces more community funding through Anzac Centenary local grants

2 September 2014

MEMBER for New England Barnaby Joyce has announced funding of $1500 which has been made available by the Federal Government to support a Tenterfield Shire Council project commemorating the service and sacrifice of Australians during the First World War.

“The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program enables communities to support commemorations at the local level by giving them the opportunity to secure funding for projects that preserve the stories of local servicemen and women for generations to come,” Mr Joyce said.

“I welcome the recognition from the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Centenary of ANZAC, Senator the Hon. Michael Ronaldson of our electorate’s efforts in recognising those that have served our nation nearly 100 years ago.

“This grant for the Tenterfield Show Society will assist with advertising events for the 2015 Tenterfield Show - Celebrating Anzac Centenary, to be held on 6-7 February 2015,” Mr Joyce said.

“It will complement the wider series of commemorative activities that have been developed throughout our electorate.

“At the closing of applications, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs was overwhelmed with the number of applications received from all Federal electorates across Australia.

“I would like to thank the members of the Electorate Committee who have assisted me in developing an approach for commemorating the Anzac Centenary in the New England Electorate; their hard work has made these activities, through the Anzac Centenary Local Grants Programme, a reality.

The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is a key element of the Australian Government’s Anzac Centenary program; more information is available at www.anzaccentenary.gov.au
