Community grant program can make a difference says Joyce

FEDERAL Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has urged community groups to make the most of a series of grants that could boost locally-based initiatives.

Mr Joyce said the grants, distributed by the nib foundation, aims to partner with up to at least 10 organisations striving to make a difference with the health and well-being of the communities within which they serve.

He said the grants were generally awarded for a single year and must target the health and wellbeing of a well-defined community in Australia with preference given to the focal areas of young people and carers. The program must be able to demonstrate a measurable improvement/impact on lives and health outcomes.

Other selection criteria include preference given to programs that address problems in a new way or addressing issues that are not satisfactorily addressed. The organisation must show a level of staff skills and capability to be able to manage the program including financial management.
