Barnaby Joyce welcomes grant for youth workshops in New England Electorate

FEDERAL Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has welcomed the announcement of $13,331 for the Electorate, part of funding for 80 exciting regional arts and cultural projects through the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund.

“The Eudaimonia tour in the New England Electorate has far reaching implications for our region - it not only benefits the funding recipient but also our residents, who will participate in quality arts experiences,” Mr Joyce said.

He said the grant will fund a series of development workshops with youth aged 7-12 years in New England North West theatre venues that will encourage the development of new regional theatre works.

“Using basel mask and folk lore, youth from around the region will workshop body movement and story-telling using their own experiences as stimulus. Participants will then showcase their performances to the community.

“The Coalition Government is determined to ensure that arts experiences are available for local people to enjoy in rural and regional areas such as the New England,” Mr Joyce said.

Mr Joyce said quality arts and cultural activities are not only the domain of the capital cities – communities and artists in the regions are an integral part of Australia’s vibrant arts sector.

“These regional projects draw on a mix of visual art, theatrical performances, music, film and the delivery and sharing of skills and knowledge,” he said.

The Regional Arts Fund is administered on behalf of the Australian Government by Regional Arts Australia and its member organisations.
