Barnaby Joyce announces two grants totalling $5200 for Men’s Sheds
25 July 2014
FEDERAL Member for New England Barnaby Joyce said two grants worth $3000 and $2200 have been announced for Quirindi Rural Heritage Village Men’s Shed and the Tenterfield Men’s Shed.
Mr Joyce said the grants will support community men’s sheds that largely cater for older, retired men and offer social, emotional and other benefits to men who participate in them.
He said the Quirindi Rural Heritage will receive their grant under the Tools and Equipment category and will use the $3000 in funding to buy woodworking tools
The Tenterfield Men’s Shed was successful with their $2200 grant in the same category and will use the funding to buy woodworking and safety tools.
Mr Joyce said the culturally safe environment offered by men’s sheds is conducive to learning and sharing information including health information.
He said all Sheds in Australia are eligible to apply for grants for a maximum of $8000 across three categories: tools and equipment, building and maintenance and shed activities and programs.
