29 January 2014

Federal Member for New England Barnaby Joyce has welcomed a $12,940 Federal Government grant to assist the Tingha community commemorate its contribution to the First World War.

The grant will assist with the erection of a bronze soldier statue and plaque in the Tingha Memorial Gardens to commemorate the men and women from the district who served in the First World War.

“There are more than 1500 memorials to the First World War across the country.  These tributes to our diggers take all forms – from avenues of trees, gardens, parks, memorial gates and honour boards,” Mr Joyce said.

“I am very pleased to know this money will enable the Tingha community to honour the young men and women who served our nation at a time of war.”

The Anzac Centenary Local Grants Program is a key element in the Federal Government’s Anzac Centenary program through which funding of up to $125,000 is available for each electorate to support projects commemorating the First World War.

Mr Joyce said there would be more Anzac Centenary grants announcements in the coming months.
