The recent announcement of $22million in funding, over four years, for Griffith University’s pioneering adult stem cell research is welcome news for Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce.
Senator Joyce was fortunate enough to be taken on a tour of the university’s research facilities in September of last year and immediately wrote to Federal Health Minister, Tony Abbott, supporting the funding application made Professor Alan Mackay-Sim and his team.
“I was very happy to hear of the Minister’s decision to support the initiative displayed by Griffith University and I’m sure the extra funding will assist in ensuring the future viability of this vital research,” Senator Joyce said.
“With debilitating diseases like Parkinson’s, schizophrenia and motor neurone disease at the centre of this innovative research, the work done by the team at Griffith University is sure to have a positive, widespread affect on not just the Australian community but across the international stage,” he said.
“I know a lot of work has also been done by Senator Boswell on this project and it’s great to see The Nationals delivering, not just for Queensland, but for the wider community.”
