As the debate surrounding the abortion pill RU486 continues, the position held by Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce remains the same. No abortion – full stop!
Senator Joyce is fundamentally opposed to the act of aborting a child, no matter how or when it occurs, and any procedure that facilitates such an act does not, and will not, be supported by Senator Joyce.
“I will be opposing any moves to introduce the RU486 drug into Australia for the purposes of abortion,” Senator Joyce said.
“I cannot support actions which would abort a pregnancy. I believe fundamentally in the rights of the unborn child, the same as the right of any child or adult to life. From the moment of conception, there is no juncture along the continuum where life suddenly becomes of more value.”
“I would like to remind all those involved in this debate that we are talking about human life and while I acknowledge women’s rights, it is the life and rights of an unborn foetus that I believe need to be defended.”
“Marketing of this drug, RU486, could lead to a greater tolerance of abortion in our society as the access to chemical abortions is made readily available.”
Senator Joyce acknowledges the significant clinical implications raised by others in the community, including the need for follow up medical attention after the fact. However, this research simply strengthens the Senator’s position as such serious complications only highlight further the argument against abortion.
