Nationals Senator, Barnaby Joyce while perusing Google today noticed Senator Nettle from The Greens is still going to lunch on a fabricated story.
“This story is about alleged comments of mine on the Cervical Cancer vaccine which are a complete load of rubbish.
“To run briefly through the story from the start, a health reporter along time ago phoned me out of the blue saying he had heard of concerns which some parents had had about the cervical cancer vaccine.
“The reporter stated that concerns had been raised with him that the vaccine could be seen by some children below the age of consent as a signal to commence sexual activity. What were my comments on that? I stated ‘If that was the case you would have to make sure you involved the parents who no doubt you would if you were giving one of their children a needle’.
“Quite obviously the cervical cancer vaccine is no protection against pregnancy or venereal disease so it is very important that parents have a strong input into how their children are raised.
“The next day I read a headline ‘Joyce says cervical cancer vaccine promotes promiscuity’. Thanks to this reporter I have been clarifying my position to everybody from Prof Fraser to my wife and my mother.
“It looks like Senator Nettle has decided she to can go to lunch on it yet again. This is the only time I’ve ever found it very important to try and get a correction clearly spelt out.
“I think it is extremely important that when protections are available against terrible diseases such as cervical cancer that if they can be safely administered you should strongly consider utilising them. For the record, I do want my children vaccinated.
“This is my position, not cervical cancer vaccine promotes promiscuity, but Senator Nettle might find this story won’t get as much of a run as the sensational misinformation that she knows she’s peddled.” Senator Joyce said.
