Queensland Senator Barnaby Joyce had no hesitation is taking up the offer of Nationals’ candidate for Flynn, Glenn Churchill, to visit and tour the electorate.
“There is a rigorous debate in Canberra at the moment about climate change and the people of Flynn need to be heard.
“Coal exports are the backbone of Flynn and shutting down the coal industry, which the Greens and Labor want to do, will cripple this community.
“The purpose of my visit is to walk the streets of the Flynn electorate with Glenn Churchill and to hear, first hand, the impact on their livelihood this crushing Labor/Green policy will have.
“Glenn is a great Nationals candidate and the people of Flynn need to know Glenn will give them a great voice in Canberra; a voice which is realistic and will represent them with vigour.
“Whilst the Coalition Government has concerns about climate change, shutting down the coal industry is not our answer. We believe in research and the development of clean coal technologies.
“This will ensure a win/win outcome, as opposed to Labor/Green policy. We will implement policy reducing the impact of the coal industry on climate change whilst not crippling the industry and people’s lives.
“Other issues I’ll be taking a great interest in will be Industrial Relation laws and wheat.
“My views about the retention of the single desk have been well documented and I intend to hear what the wheat growers of Flynn have to say.
