Queensland Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has, this afternoon, welcomed the results of the Nationals work on securing pay phone services.

“As highlighted previously, payphones, especially to rural people, are an essential service and any adjustment of such services must involve consultation with the local community,” Senator Joyce said.

“I am calling on strong involvement by community groups to raise concerns regarding the loss of payphones in their local area as requirements differ from town to town. The website below can assist with this process.”

“One of my original concerns was the loss of “fall back” phone services that so many of us have used at times. Payphones are often the security blanket when other services are not available or have failed.”

“I have received considerable feedback on this one and haven’t let it go. The Queensland Nationals took this issue to Canberra and have persisted with it ever since.”
