This week in politics

25

Now that we’ve all picked our jaw up off the ground, because Ms Gillard and Mr Swan have precisely done what they said they wouldn’t do and are bringing in a carbon tax, we have to organise the fight to stop it.

Yes, we are going to have to go through all the arguments again and we will win again.

Let’s start from these. The people who couldn’t get fluffy stuff in the ceiling for the rats and mice to sleep on without setting fire to 190 houses; the people who decided to go on some manic building spree in the backyard of every school ,whether the schools liked it or not and in many cases in multiples of the cost of the true price on the structures ; these same people who thought they could reboot the global economy with the purchase of imported electronic goods with $900 cheques; the same people who have got you into $181billion in gross debt; yet the same people again who   looked down the barrel of a camera to talk to the Australian people and stated categorically they would never bring in a carbon tax in the term of their government; they are the people who are going to bring in the carbon tax because they have the quite evident expertise, despite all the history to the contrary ,to cool the planet from a room in Canberra.

Not surprisingly, what they have changed is the temperature of people’s disposition. There is a palpable white fury from the deceit that people feel. People can hardly afford and in some cases not afford at all the power bills they currently have. They do not need any more motivation to use less power. They are totally focused on this because they can’t afford to pay for their current usage.

People understand that you either have cheap power or cheap wages. There is another alternative, no jobs and Australia’s manufacturing industry, or what’s left of it, is well and truly in the sights of this absurd decision of Ms Gillard. I look forward to AWU Secretary, Mr Howse, in his next Mussolini impersonation behind the podium, to go into bat for these jobs, but I haven’t heard boo from him today.
In the background, literally and photographically, are Mr Windsor and Mr Oakeshott. Mr Oakeshott, well you can just make your own mind up about him, but Mr Windsor’s statement at the press conference is peculiar. He said, “and please don’t construe through my presence here that I will be actually supporting any scheme”. Well, Mr Windsor, what were you doing there? Did you get lost on the way to the toilet and just stumble across the Prime Minister doing her press conference and decide to stand in on it?

Please don’t tell me that we have to go through this teeth pulling agony as you stand at the front of the political church in the big white fluffy dress saying ,” I don’t know how I got here and I don’t know whether I shall say I do. Don’t construe that this dress means I’m getting married to another Labor/ Green party decision.

I was not in the least bit surprised about the white fury I’m hearing in Sydney and how some of the illuminati misread that there would be such an overwhelming reaction against the announcement of the carbon tax. I am not surprised in the slightest by the almost monastic silence of Mr Bill Shorten as he sits back salivating on Ms Gillard and her Green cohorts happily mounting their own political pyre.
Day one, round one, and we, the National Party and the Liberal Party are ready for the fight.

Barnaby,
I hope you can re-establish your petition against the obnoxious carbon tax on your website, I feel sure that after reading many of the comments by readers today across most of the daily newspapers now is the time for some means of real interaction between the public and the opposition parties. We must find a way of removing these fools at the earliest possible opportunity. I'm sure if you create a new petition you will be flooded with supporters, maybe even the sympathetic radio commentators such as Alan Jones, Neill Mitchell, Ben Fordham etc. Would give it a kick along as well

Good luck with the good fight ahead of you

Regards
Alan Simpson

Exactly right and entertainingly written. Well done. Start boning up on Shorten because Gillard just signed her own death warrant.

This could be Labor's downfall! Australians are sick of the lies and this one is a doozy.
The Public Housing waste of money also needs to be included in with the Insulation & BER. We have $6M worth of it (stimulus) lumped on us in our one kilometre tourist strip of Palm Cove, QLD!!
Gillard will stop at nothing to please the Greens who got her into power and we have to suffer yet another tax.......and OH ....we still have the Flood Levy to come.....not to mention Mining Tax.
I wonder what new tax they will come up with next. Afterall, they have to fund their unscrupulous spending somehow!!!

Dear Barnaby
The anger in Brisbane is equally white hot. We need to send a very strong message to this government that Australia does not want this new carbon tax or price or whatever devious name they want to try and disguise it under. Ms Gillard has bought into disrepute the position of Prime Minister of Australia. I cannot believe that any Prime Minister of any political persuasion has so little respect for not only the people of Australia, but such non-existent personal integrity, that she can stand up and claim that those calling her out on her blatant lie are playing 'word games'. Embarrassing!

Please can the Liberal Party help organise protests across Australia?

Barnaby,

This tax will cripple Australia as is the intention of this fascist government. How long do we in small business ( I am a food vendor) put up with this. Do we have to set ourselves on fire outside Parliament to get politicians to listen to us. We are hurting already at the hands of this fiscally irresponsible government, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put a stop to this crippling tax. We cannot trust anything any of these ministers in what they say especially the cowardly independents who have decided to sleep their way with the communist green party and the illegal government of Gillard.
Sunday, February 27, 2011 1:08 PM
Im in your corner Barnaby.

Beyond the vast factual misgivings I have with 'climate science' the Gillard government must be stopped simply as a matter of principle. They need to get the message that "lying is not ok".

Yeah ok let's invest in green technology, great. But why is it the peoples fault that global warming is occurring? Governments, military, and corporations worldwide have been, and continue to be, engaged in multiple activities that damage the planet more than the people ever will. Why is the guilt all placed on us? I have a right to live my life thankyou very much and I refuse to take the blame for secret science experiments gone wrong and reckless profiteering.

Beyond that, why does little old Australia have to be the carbon tax experiment petri dish? Globally we are nothing and this is a global issue. A carbon tax in Australia misses the point entirely. We are not domino #1.

My final question is: "Where will the money go Julia?" I bet it goes overseas to these psuedo world authorities and not to Australian green power at all, as much as she will try to make it appear so.

Thanks,
Chad

How can we register our utter disgust and protest to Juliar - about this tax????

Yes, just make sure you all get everyone you know on Julia Gillard's case. I have given the National Seniors of Australia her email address.

At least 80% of the general population are ready to set the dogs on the Slave Labor Party.

Make sure you email your Senators and MPs as well and let them know how you feel about being taxed to the eyeballs on everything, and then taxed AGAIN!

I think the next attack on Australian citizens will involve the disabled, elderly and infirm. I think Julia Gillard is about to send them all out to work to pay for the flooding of Queensland.

At the same time, the insurance companies will cool their heels, sip champagne and eat caviar for breakfast. The benevolent donaters to the disaster appeal will tap their feet in annoyance, to the tune of flood victims gnashing their teeth.

I support a price on carbon as a scientific and economic imperative to do something about climate change. Our consumption generates the largest per capita footprint in the world. I'd rather leave it up to business and individuals to reduce emissions than poorly managed government schemes. You can stand there whistling and hope it goes away but this is one Australian who sees the point. Not that my views will make it past your moderator.

Hi Barnaby, Mate great stuff that you are doing for us!! Keep up the great work and really give it to MSGillard on Her lies and deceit with the CARBON TAX. MsGillard will go down in Australian History as not only a Back Stabber and a Liar but will be the only person to hold the position of Prime Minister that was twice not elected by the majority of Australian voters !! I wish you were in NSW where we are literally being raped by the Labor government and it's undesirable members. Then there's Ms Gillard, what an embarrassment she is on the World Political Stage. God help us and I'm not a religious person. Keep up the great work. Please have a quiet word to Tony Abbot about his walk and erring and umming during his speeches. He needs a few lessons and also to get rid of the Budgie Smugglers. Not a pretty sight. Regards, Judi

Don't worry, folks. Tony Abbott has given Labor a good hammering in the lower house and they have agreed to put forward some costings on the Carbon Tax, since they had NOTHING to present today!

Julia Gillard was looking terribly worried, and some silly people are now predicting that the Minister for Climate Change & Energy (Greg Combet? Is that his name?) might take her place as our new Commandant .... whoops .... Prime Minister. How stupid is that?

Then there are others who are speculating that Bill Shorten (another union communist?) will get Julia Gillard's job.

This morning the young women who work at the hairdressing salon were very down in the mouth, since they found out the hard way that a vote for the "matriarchal glow" of both Julia Gillard and Anna Bligh results in much higher levels of taxation. I tried to tell them. Maybe next time they will listen.

I have this morning received copy of an article ostensibly written by Tim Blair, which in turn referred me to this webpage. He raises questions which should be asked by the Opposition, and certainly by the population. One which has puzzled me since this subject of carbon trading was introduced is: How will trading in a non-productive commodity help control climate change? Surely this is just another money-making scheme?

If you plan on organising a petition, make sure it reaches Western Australians. We are rarely considered in the overall picture, and this tax looks to be another massive grab at the wealth this State generates for all of Australia.

Is there any point reminding you that the Greens received more votes than the Nationals at the last election? Our electoral system seem to lets ignorant hicks (and in your case on greenhouse, deliberately ignorant hicks - there are 100 qualified climate scientists saying it is an issue of concern for every 1 mad English peer who says it isn't, and you choose to go with the mad English peer) decide policy and ignores the educated. Your are living proof of this. If this is 'elitist', it is only because I value education and reason over ignorance and ignorant fear campaigns. Go and get some information from someone who knows ehat they are talking about and stop spouting your foolishness.

Well written Barnaby, the mood, as I move through the papers and their comments, is fury. Fury at being lied to, fury because so many do not see how a tax can make any difference, fury at the attitude, so dictorial and fury that 14% of the national vote can run this country. We cannot stand by and watch this rabble for another 2.5 years.
It seems the latest ploy to shut down debate re their failed border policies is to cry racism, that seems to hit a nerve with the public. Those not interested in politics only hear this word and react accordingly with no idea of the issue. Morrison must continue his job and keep these money wasters to account. Must say though it seems lots more are waking up to this inept and useless govt.

Good speech Barnaby

For years now my Father and I have been saying that with the amount of manufacturing going offshore these days is going to be a problem, no one was saying anything.

God help us when there is nothing left in the ground and there is no mining industry.

I remember listening to you on TV on election night and you were asking one of the new independent down the camera and asking him where did his preferences lye? You asked him about two or three times. The person you were asking did not want to answer you ... Who was that?? and I wonder why the host did not follow up and ask the same question?

Keep up the good work.

Kind Regards

James

Ever since they were elected in 2007 the Federal ALP has behaved like a bunch of bullies. They decide they are going to do something, and they charge ahead with a white-hot passion. After their win in 2007 every piece of legislation was treated with such urgency that there was never any time to "cross the ts and dot the is" (their words). We all know what resulted. The carbon tax proposal is being treated with the same degree of hysteria as was the ETS ie. "the greatest moral challenge of our time". In the face of huge opposition from the public, the government pushes ahead, hell-bent on doing things their way. Are we living in a democracy or a dictatorship? The March 23rd rally may prove to be the fore-runner of a Middle-east style revolt (without the guns). It's time we said 'enough' to thiese incompetent, posturing fools.

Well it just goes to show it was worth spending 10 minutes filling in that huge white paper so I could put Barnaby first on my Senate how to vote card. Please let us know what we can do to express our displeasure about a tax that we were told we wouldn't have. Who do we write to now when we kicked out our local Labor MP last election because we weren't happy with the answers we were getting then on this taxing subject?
# Rob Milne

A carbon tax will not reduce carbon, but only push production of it offshore and indeed increase its output into the atmosphere. A tax on carbon is a tax on industry, which will make us less competitive and push manufacturing to overseas countries where there is no tax, aka China, India etc. That will mean a loss of jobs for Australia. It will also mean an overall increase in carbon as the same items are produced at lower cost, in countries with less efficiency, less controls and are greater polluters. A carbon tax and ETS can only work in a level playing field where every country in the world has one, and where trading values are set as per currency markets, but unfortunately that does not exist now, the rudimentary foundations of this in Kyoto were never agreed to nor implemented globally. Additionally when offshoring, there is the carbon cost of transferring raw materials and then shipping the finished goods back, all burning fossil fuel.
Bottom line of the tax is, more cost to the consumer, business offshoring and loss of Australian jobs and an increase in net green house gas emissions. Unless the whole world can agree on a common solution for trading, there will be winners and losers and those who will use it to economic advantage, which is certainly not Australia. Sorry, the tax is a loser.

Why cant Windsors electorate tell him in no uncertain words that his and Oakshottt's actions, will not see them re-elected? maybe a revolt in the street and get them all at his front gate.
The threat of defeat must ring some bells with this Guy,or is he so bloody minded or bribed by Gillartine & co? What are the numbers needed for a spill? The Tele and Australian papers are calling for a re-Election due to her broken promise,You and Tony have to show this great big new Tax will destroy Manufacturing and cost of living will rocket, with people already doing it hard.
This is also due to Bloody minded WASTe ie; the NBN ie Not Bloody Needed, $43/$80 billion, which will be out of date before its running. Propose to cut this and there is money for floods, and a fair go for households.Even the 'Come on down' policy, no deal with Timor, wasting Naueu already there, handouts bigger than our Pensioners,it is Criminal what they are doing and $billions wasted.
I think the revolt in the streets will get the pinky press to take notice, but how can you engineer a new Election, surely Windsor & co can see we are being conned and rorted, his own people must be pissed off big time, How can these turncoats finally get it...The country cant afford this mob.

Maybe it needs the Power bills to start rolling in with the Carbon Tax for people to demand a change of Government NOW.

Can some one please have Ms Ju- LIAR explain what or how a tax is going to make any difference to our environment? WHat will the govt use this tax money for?
Can she also be informed that we , the Australain public do not appreciate the lying "spin" of her "spin Dr's".
Why do I write to your office, because Labour are too gutless to have an email contact with the public.

Barnaby,
Wonderfully written - keep up the good work as we are 100% percent
behind you. The white hot anger in the community that you speak of is
definitely there, and the politicians who ignore it and continue with this
giant con will rue the day. We need more people like you, who aren't afraid
of the mostly left wing media, to speak the truth and not buy into this
Emperor's New Clothes fairytale!

Barnaby,
This is the best speech that I have heard. Well done! Keep up the great work. As a female, I am thoroughly embarrassed, that our first female Prime Minister has not come up to scratch. PM Gillard has set back the clock years before a another hard working and deserving female will ever reach the top job. Voters will never forgive or forget the hardship she is about to deliver upon us. Keep up the good fight Barnaby as I am on your side.

I am absolutely fascinated how the left wing marxists can stare down the truth. When the polls say that 70% of the electors in the country do not want a carbon tax and a very large number of scientists say it is a non-solution to a non-problem, we are told that "most Australians want a carbon tax"?????
