This week in politics

Senator Joyce said his thoughts and prayers are with the people of North Queensland today as they brace for the massive category 5 cyclone Yasi.

The most important thing is that people get themselves into a safe position. Hinchinbrook Shire Council Mayor Pino Giandominico said the other day, and I reiterate his thoughts, that we can replace the buildings but we cannot replace the people.

Senator Joyce also said that the speed and ferocity of this cyclone means that towns hundreds of kilometres from the coast are also in an area of immense concern and all endeavours should be made to batten down loose objects and secure property and possessions in the best possible way to avoid damage, and most importantly physical harm.
