This week in politics

01

Labor’s waste – nothing has changed:
·         Simon Crean has only one day left to act on the $5.5 billion in unspent BEF funds; $2.1b is due to go out the door today
·         If he can’t guarantee that not one dollar will be wasted, he has no choice but to suspend this spendathon
·         For the good administration of precious taxpayer dollars, the rest of this beleaguered program must be suspended
·         Julia Gillard must finally acknowledge the program with its colossal waste and mismanagement has been her direct responsibility
·         Labor’s waste in so many ways means Australia is now borrowing $4m an hour - every hour

Labor can’t be trusted:
·         If you want to reduce the debt, stop the boats, dump the mining tax then you have to change the government
·         Labor is a continuation of the Rudd/Gillard Government in which Gillard was Acting Prime Minister more than one day in every five
·         Kevin Rudd isn’t just out of sight for a while – he’s been taken out by Sussex Street and the factional warlords
·         Former NSW Premier Morris Iemma says the architects of the wreckage in NSW have rolled out the wrecking ball in Canberra
·         Labor’s had a superficial makeover but Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan were central to all the disastrous decisions of the past three years
·         Julia Gillard has changed a couple of Ministers’ titles but hasn’t changed the policies
·         Labor’s anti-business, anti-worker great big mining tax will resurface straight after the election should it be re-elected
·         It’s day 60 since Julia Gillard and Wayne Swan authored the mining tax with Kevin Rudd (announced 2 May)
·         Every day the mining tax row drags on is lost investment, jobs and superannuation and uncertainty in mining communities
·         Since Labor’s great big new tax on mining appeared in the media in April, $13.5b has been wiped from superannuation fund investments in resources stocks
·         Labor’s factional warlords want to trick Australians and sneak to an early election
·         They don’t want the reality image of this bad Government; they want an image of a new Prime Minister

Some GOOD News:
·         Tony Abbott has released a 12 point Action Contract for Australia
·         It’s a road map to good government because it’s based on community values:
1.       Restore budget to surplus within 3 years and start paying Labor’s debt
2.       End Labor’s waste and restore cabinet government
3.       Reject Labor’s massive new mining tax and other taxes that hurt productivity
4.       End government discrimination against small business
5.       Enforce strict border security and control
6.       Link population growth to provision of better infrastructure
7.       Take direct action on water and the environment
8.       Protect private health and improve the public health and hospitals system
9.       Help growing families get ahead with six months paid parental leave
10.   Provide safer neighbourhoods
11.   Raise standards in education
12.   Restore work for the dole and mutual obligation
·         The Coalition has also announced new indexation arrangements for Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Scheme where members aged 55 or older will have their military superannuation pensions indexed to the greater of the CPI, Male Total Average Weekly Earnings or Pensioner and Beneficiary Living Cost Index

Labor is just the same:

·         In Opposition Julia Gillard said “another boat, another policy failure”; now she says Australians feel discomfort, disquiet, anxiety
·         There have been 141 illegal boat arrivals in less than two years – the latest carrying 99 people, following change in Labor leadership; Gillard must now stop the boats
·         Just like on border protection, Julia Gillard is all talk on population, she has no policy and has announced no changes to how many people will come to Australia
·         At least 174 homes have burned; Julia Gillard must commit to inspection of every home insulated under this failed scheme

In order to raise standards in Education, Australia needs to follow the best system in the world (Finland) rather than following countries where the Education system is failing. (Britain and the USA)

A question for Senator Barnaby:

Hi,

I'm a young liberal from Melbourne, and am seeking answers to key issues that I feel have direct impact on the everyday Australian. Being the Shadow Minister for Regional Development, Infrastructure . . . I direct this question to you.

In regards to Action #6

- Link population growth to provision of better infrastructure:

I am interested to know the policies the Coalition will propose in relation to improving infrastructure (in particularly in Melbourne, VIC), if elected?

There have been proposals tackling the issue with 'immigration' levels and capping the intake to ensure a sustainable population. However. I am curious to know exactly what the Coalition plan to inject into improving infrastructure, as this is in fact the key issue to ensure we are able to manage the inevitability of a growing population. The people of Melbourne (and I am sure this would also be an issue in major cities nationally), are tired of the Labor governments failure to improve our infrastructure and actually 'move forward' as Gillard would say, because all I've seen for past few years is increase in public transportation costs without even a slight increase in quality service.

Regards,

Michelle
