Turn Your Attention to Matters at Home Mr Rudd

Peter Spencer is on the 26th day of his hunger strike and when I climbed the Tower of Hope at Saarahnlee in southern NSW where he has been perched I saw how unwell he is. While Mr Rudd is swanning about on the world stage at Copenhagen, Mr Spencer is expressing the pain on the ground that is felt when people are defrauded of an asset and have to pay for the decisions of governments.

My question to Mr Rudd and Ms Wong is how much will the bill be after they sign Australia up to help despotic leaders in Africa and Central America to “pay” for action on climate change. We have 114 people in Copenhagen but we don’t seem to have any idea how big the bill will be when and if Mr Rudd signs us up to a deal.

People resent it when governments take their asset off them and they resent it when they have to pay for things that they have no control over. A hunger strike is an extreme reaction but that is what can happen when people feel they are not heard. How does a farmer compete with Robert Mugabe and Hugo Chavez? We all want a cleaner, greener and more efficient world but we don’t want to sell our nation down the toilet to get it.

Mr Spencer is not well and I plead with Mr Rudd to open up a line of communication with him. There he is day after day, 60 kilometres from where Mr Rudd works (when he is happens to be in Canberra).

I asked Mr Spencer to come down from the tower as no one wants him to harm himself but he is resolute. I say this as a human to another human: please come down. I say to Mr Rudd: concern yourself with things closer to home.

When Mr Tanner says it is financially irresponsible to talk of compensation for land owners he is acknowledging the worth of the asset that has been stolen in the night from the rightful owners.

I applaud you Barnaby for making the time to speak to Peter Spencer......and we all know how busy you schedule is. If only our Prime Minister would concern himself with things closer to home. Sadly, he just doesn't seem to care about what is happening in his own country. It would appear he doesn't give a tuppeny hoot if Mr Spencer becomes the next bush suicide. God help Australia.

Please can't something be done about this problem before Peter Spencer dies. I visit the area from time to time and it is a disgrace people aren't being compensated for their land being taken from them. It is a disgrace that the Prime Minister of Australia cares more about China and India and all the other countries than he does about Australia. Bring on an election!!!!
Thank you Mr Joyce for being so caring to visit Peter Spencer.

Here is the accord from Copenhagen link as put by the US...
http://www.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474977954935

Item 4/

"Delivery of reductions and financing by developed countries will be measured, reported and verified in accordance with existing and any further guidelines adopted by the Conference of the Parties, and will ensure that accounting of such targets and finance is rigorous, robust and transparent."
The climate Change people know they can never do this, So the USA called their bluff and said "you want money... you prove it to the world in Factual numbers and we will check these numbers before you get a cent... they can never do this. Obama in Effect told them they are all liers, because he asked them to verify the facts in results. And when you read the rest of the Accord you can see that there was never going to be any money from the US, China, India unless there was proven numbers on Climate change and climate reductions.. Proving that a reduction of 20% of the 4% of man made Co2 (0.8%) will limit global warming to 2deg C could never be proved.
Rudd has just been shown up to be one of the biggest liers to the Australian people of all time.. and it is not just me saying it it is the whole developed world.

When the next federal election is called, we must make our views known, and put Labor and The Greens at the bottom of the voting order.

We must also get rid of any Liberal MPs and Senators who showed ANY interest in this Green Communist Plan.

If that doesn't give them the message, what will?

Thanks for raising this matter. I think I have part of the solution to the problem that Mr Abbott has regarding the issues surrounding the carbon debate and the environment. I have been pondering this problem trying to do something to progress the situation on the island for a number of years. When I read about Peter Spencer and then read your comments in The Australian, I thought it was provident.

I am one of the many farmers that has been caught up in the native vegetation issue. I have just challenged the Tasmanian Forest Practice Authority on a ruling to clear some vegetation (500 acres) on King Island, and fortunately I did win, in this instance, through their own stupidity.

The role of farmers in meeting the future carbon sequestration objectives across the Australian landscape has been virtually ignored. Farmers, in their endevour to face the ever increasing cost price squeeze placed upon them, have purchased land (often from the Crown) with the aim of expanding their operations to feed the anticipated 35 million Australians that Rudd thinks we need, as well as survive financially.

If one does believe in the carbon link to climate change, then the simpliest solution, which has quadruple (plus one) bottom line end result, would be to introduce a GET (Good Environment Tax) on all food and fibre produced in Australia. This would bring it into line with the GST that was removed as a result of the horse trade that occurred when the GST was introduced.

This GET should be targetted for restoring the degradation and environmental damage that occurs across the Australian landscape every time food is produced. It would also be used to compensate farmers (eg through management agreements) for the theft of their assets as a result of these native vegetation laws. The funds would be returned to landmanagers for programs adopted under an accredited EMS (Environmental Management System_Judith Troeth knows about these things)) so that specified targets and priorities are met. The distribution of the funds could be linked to the current BAS process.

It would achieve five things that are currently not being addressed in all the current arggy bargy.
1. The landscape will slowly be restored with the resultant landscape scale sequestration achieved simultaneously.
2. Biodiversity in its own right will be protected and restored
3.The Australian consumer will have their hip pocket nerve reawakened to the fact that food does have an environmental cost, and doesnt just appear on a supermarket shelf.
4. It keeps the hedge funds and investment bankers fingers out of the carbon trading pie.
5. It would lift the current profile of farmers in the eyes of the Australian and world consumers.

The downs side, (if there is one), is that the cost of food in Australia will increase by 10%. However if you believe the carbon/climate change lobbyists then the likely long term affects on Australia's food production is going to make this increase pale into insignificants.

If the link between carbon and climate does in fact ultimately fail, then nothing is lost, as the problems with the loss of our biodiversity andl environmental cost of our food production have been sorted long term, and the Australian consumer will learn to understand the link and the balance between food production and the environment.

This GET would bring Australian farmers and our agricultural production to the forefront of the world in terms of long term sustainability

Cheers

I cannot see how a serious Prime Minister would even get time to go overseas. If you know what you are doing, then there would be so much to do at home you couldn't take time out to get on an international flight. No-ones minding the store.

Since it makes no sense to be run by compulsion, from the centre, a serious Prime Minster's job ought to be about getting about internally persuading Premiers, mayors and business groups into getting behind some sort of strategy or other. 99% of what needs to get done ought to get done by persuasion.

Such as getting more wharves built or getting nuclear power up. This is about pre-approving vastly more land for at least the potential to be used for these purposes than could ever possibly be used for these purposes. Why would you go overseas? We don't want our taxeaters getting together with their taxeaters because all that will come out of such meetings will be a conspiracy against the taxpayers of both countries. The idea is to be powerfully strong militarily just so you can stay at home and get things done. Help to make the better society. If you are strong you don't need to think to much about these foreign miscreants. A good government is an internally focused government. We would want to be laconic in our attitude towards the rest of the world.

No-ones minding the store. The milky bar kid seems to mix up diplomacy with schmoozing. But international meetings are business sessions. And he hasn't so much as turned his diplomatic efforts on getting us the Raptor or anything useful for this country.

We can appeal to Rudd on Mr Spencer's behalf rhetorically. But fundamentally this fellow is a Quisling. Probably more traction could be had by appealing to Tony Abbot. At least Tony is a fellow with a good side to his nature. These ideas like having nature corridors, or greening the deserts. These are long term projects. They can only be of negligible cost if we are in it for the distant future that goes beyond our own time. To just persecute someone like Mr Spencer is a confession of short-termism and unsustainability. It tells us that these aren't serious people. That they are not in it for the long-term. These are the Pol Pots of the environmentalism movement. Wanting everything to happen right away and from year zero.

The property rights must be restored. An apology and a little bit of compensation for their persecution, to deal with immediate cash needs is in order.

It's a total disgrace what the Rudd Government have done to a hard working Australian, Peter Spencer! Here’s a bloke who is protesting to have the democratic right to work his own land that the socialistic Rudd Government has enforced restrictions and he doesn’t get a mention in the press which should be screaming this story on the front page. Rudd is a joke as a PM focussed more on the climate change scam and getting a seat on the UN Council above the needs of people he’s suppose to be representing like Peter Spencer.

I am very disturbed and angry with the way all governments have treated our Australian Farmers, locking up areas so as they can get the carbon credits. With all this land off limits to Farmers and plans to mine the Liverpool Plains for coal. Where will we grow our food for our increasing population.
It is a discrace that Australian Farmer Peter Spencer has to go on a hunger strike,to make us aware of our Farmers plight.
While Mr. Rudd, can find the time to go to Church and take part in all the excitement of Mary McKillop becoming our first Saint, how unchristian of him to let one of our Australian Farmers starve himself to death.
Shame on Mr. Rudd and his government, they could very well end up with blood on their hands if Peter dies.
Please try to save him Barnaby I am sure all the people will be behind you.

A very big part of the solution to a lot of Australia's problems lies in the need for decentralisation; for oportunities for people to live away from the big cities, because that is a large part of the problem. People living in a compressed urban environment, always surrounded by the constant motion and activity of urban living and its pressures of high mortgages, heavy traffic etc, cant be expected to empathise with the problems of the bush. To most urban dwellers the bush is a lovely place to go for a holiday or a drive on a Sunday, but it is expecting a lot from people to expect them to agitate for better conditions for rural electorates. We are one of the most urbanised countries in the world and our proccupations mostly centre on urban life. Politicians like it that way. It makes people easier to manipulate. The answer lies in rural based development with regional cities and surrounding smaller towns. Rural growth fosters a more discerning and independent spirit and that's what's needed to increasethe number of people who will empathise with people getting kicked around by the bureaucracy.

I heard a phone conversation tonight with Peter Spencer on our local radio station in Newcastle.
This man deserves every Aust to get behind him and protect what they and our forefather have fought wars for ..the preservation of our rights and way of life.
The State and Federal Govt are destroying this country from within.
My father fought in New Guinea to protect this country and its population.
He is now asking WHY?? Our way of life is being destroyed from within by our own people !!
My heart goes out to Peter and the many other landowners that have had their land stolen from them by the so called Labor Party or is it the "Green Leech Party"
It was so encouraging to hear so many people ringing in, and recording their absolute horror and anger over Peter's predicament.
People throughout Aust are waking up to the Govt and now starting to understand about the whole ETS/Carbon credit bullshit and how it could personally affect them.

I feel exactly the same way-what is going on here that a farmer can have his land stolen so that he can't make a living from it. This is madness-where is the KRUDD-our PM . I feel for this man-why can't this man be compensated? Is our government turning into a den a thieves. I will contacting my local member to ask the very same questions. Keep up the good work. You are a good man , Senator Joyce?

Does everyone realise there is a media blackout on this matter. This should concern all Australians.
The major newspapers will not print any current content or analysis of the overall matter.
I urge all comment makers to join Agmate

Senator Joyce, I really appreciate that you have made the effort to see Mr. Spencer. We all wish he could come down but if he does he will be served an eviction notice. He is drawing attention to the fact that this has happened to many other farmers as well but this also could happen to anyone the Govt targets.

People are very conscious of the fact that this was bought in during the Howard term of office and there has never been any publicity up till now. Has this Govt perverted this law to suit their own ends? This needs to be bought up in the next sitting of the Parliament if the Coalition Party is to have any credibility.

This unjust law must be repealed so that the farmers can get back to be farming and growing food for this country. Now that the science has been found to be a "con" this could be done. The country people cannot fight this by themselves due to lack of numbers. The general population needs to be told about this as it affects their very freedom.

The trap by Socialists is very nearly set and we will be forced into a situation like Russia or China. Chairman Rudd has proved he could not care less and that he cares more about the Tamil Tigers than our farmers. He was filmed at the cricket. Mr Spencer is not far from Canberra and it would be so simple for someone from the Rujdd Govt to at least declare a Moratorium so that Mr Spencer can live the rest of his life with his family. Also where is the National Farmers Federation in this? Have they been infiltrated or shut down too. More people are finding out about this every day and they want answers.

This appalling legislation will penalise and ruin our farmers. Why should 100 percent of all farmers' land/trees be "locked up" - to satisfy the requirements of the Kyoto Protocol - when only about 10 percent of crown land (incl. national parks) - is "locked up?" Over in the U.S. they have included 100 percent of their N.Pks in their calculations for this "carbon storage" nonsense. The PM needs to be quizzed on this above fact. No wonder there is now a media embargo on this issue and farmers are reeling - understandably. "Something stinketh in the state of Denmark" me thinketh, to borrow a line from Shakespeare's Hamlet. P.S. I am not a farmer, nor have I ever been one.I live in a regional city. Don't let up Senator Joyce. I haven't bothered with all these conspiracy theories in the past, but there seems to be something sinister behind this issue.

Hi Barnaby
Well done!
How as a people do we make this Government actual do what they were elected to do and serve the people??
If we have freedom of speech in this nation then how does this nation not know about or have it's attention drawn to what has been a media clamp down and obstruction of justice at the highest level??
This affect every man woman and child and they need to know.
Who will speak out?? Who will stand and hold the ground? Our ground, our God given right of freedom, peace and justice???

Did John Howard sign the Kyoto agreement? or who did?

Native Veg laws - Mr Rudd put yourself in Peter Spencer's shoes! and think!

God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in it - and He set the boundaries not man! - there is no climate change that is outside the boundaries set!!!
Our prayer is that men like Peter Spencer will bring justice - and the lawlessness of this nation will be bought to account!!!
If the righteous do not stand up then evil will prevail.
Stand Barnaby Stand - or such a time as this - you have been put into this position for such a time as this - you have nation behind you and you have the platform and this is the tip of the iceberg!!!!
Go for it Barnaby and cause the biggest upset this nation has every seen!!
Those of like mind will rally and you will be successful.

Rosie,

Rudd signed Kyoto as soon as he got into office.
John Howard had more sense and refused.
Rudd intended to sign all along, Labor joined the Greens "under the covers" and they helped Labor win office...they are both in this together.
Kyoto was signed so it was 'full steam ahead" for the ETS and the whole Climate Change saga...and to get Rudd (he thought) a Bollywood image on the world stage !!
The ETS is also going to pay for the "free handouts" given by the govn in the form of "stimilus...monoply money"!
If it gets passed by the Senate in Feb ...we are in dire striates ..unless Labor is thrown out at the next election.
Another serious problem is what people have stated here.....Media Manulipation....will the Opposition get an equal or fair, amount of time to debate all issues?.....I think not.
Aussies need to start informing other aussies ..fast ..time is running out.
Election is in the wind...my guess is May.

K rudd should hang his head in shame....this poor excuse for a prime minister is more concerned with his image than the well being of one of his countrymen. Is it only me, or do others as well detect the smell of a dictator - control freak? I have never in my 60 plus years felt embarrassed by being an Australian but I find that having the PM that we have I almost wish I lived somewhere else. This cold, calculating, egotistical, disgraceful excuse for a PM exudes a total contempt for his fellow countrymen, scudding about the world believing that he alone is the cure-all for the world's ills. The hide of this jumped up poor excuse for a politician. He is below contempt, lower than a snakes navel. An absolute opposite of what 'An Australian' should be. Shame on the bastard.

Dear Barnaby, You managed to get a brief coverage of Farmer Spencer's plight amidst all the brutal murders that our media passes off as 'news'. However, the coverage was worse than useless because no one would know why he was up there or that it was due to Kyoto if they hadn't read it on the internet. One thing this country badly needs is an unbiased and informative news service on the 'real' issues. The media here is 'bread and circuses but it soon will not even be bread if we find ourselves in the position of some third world countries where food is too expensive because they are not allowing them to grow enough.Kevin Rudd needs to open his eyes and see what is going on in his own country.I shall include this brave farmer in my prayers for a successful outcome. I have also written to my local media about the farce of Copenhagen and made a point of saying that farmers like Farmer Spencer were easy targets because of Kyoto.Yours Sincerely Patricia Halligan BA History [Hons]

Thank you Sen Joyce,
You have restored some hope to a disillusioned Australian.
Please stand strong and don't be forced to tow the party line.
You have more friends than you realise, in places you'd probably not expect (that is if you are at all subject to the mis-information of media portrayals of certain groups in Australia).
Be a man for the people and please, use what power you have to do what is right.
Yours in faith,

I don't know who Kevin Rudd is representing but it's not Australia nor Australians. He ran the campaign for Prime Minister to meet his own agenda and personal career objectives. Any leader with a heart would have taken the time to speak to Peter Spencer but not Rudd. I can't wait to see the back of him and pray voters wake up at the next elections and realise that any one of us could be a Peter Spencer fightiing for our democratic rights.
The Opposition needs to work hard and bring Rudd's broken promises to light and not allow voters to forget that Rudd has accomplished zero!
