Senator Joyce acknowledges that it is day 24 of NSW farmer Peter Spencer’s hunger strike.

Driven to despair, Mr Spencer has chained himself 10 metres up a 300 foot wind tower at his Alpine property “Saarahnlee” near Canberra and has not eaten for the past 24 days.
Mr Spencer has been one of the casualties of the reappropriation of an asset from an individual to the state and by the state, without payment.
It might have been legally possible, but it was incredibly unjust.
Mr Spencer personifies the frustration and injustice held by so many people in regional Australia who have had to pick up the tab for the price of Australia meeting its international treaty commitments, such as the Kyoto protocol.
Australia met its target under the Kyoto protocol with carbon reduction from the banning of tree clearing, however this has been without payment to the owner of the trees.
The cost of this is now carried by such people as Mr Spencer and their lives have been turned upside down accordingly. This frustration is manifestly apparent in the actions of Mr Spencer.
Mr Spencer has called on Mr Rudd’s office to open up with some form of dialogue to discuss this issue. In a letter emailed to Mr Rudd’s office on the 23rd of November, the second day of his hunger strike, Mr Spencer stated that he would not take food again until Mr Rudd entered into that dialogue. From what we can ascertain, Mr Rudd’s office appears to have handballed the issue to the Australian Federal Police.
My thoughts first and foremost are for Mr Spencer’s safety and health. I call upon Mr Spencer not to put his safety or health at risk and to consider those who love him and who want no harm for him.
I understand completely and empathise with Mr Spencer’s predicament and the obnoxious arbitrary way that he has been defrauded of his assets.
I understand why Mr Spencer is conducting this hunger strike, but my foremost thoughts are that Mr Spencer does no harm to himself.
I promise to keep fighting as best I can for the rights of Mr Spencer and many others like him that have been left without just terms or fair payment.
I make the commitment to come down and speak with Mr Spencer, but I plead that he consider coming down from his hunger strike.
I also ask that Mr Rudd just make a call to Mr Spencer and see, as a person of good nature that I know Mr Rudd is, if we can try and defuse the situation.

I feel for this man, heard him speak one week ago on Radio National, they seem to speak to him every week. The Federal Gov't has buck passed it to the state gov't who buck passed it into the never never. I is a disgrace that a man has to put his life on the line to get some attention to the carbon lies being spread around. This man deserves his money now he faces foreclosure by a a big bank who are prepared to sacrifice the life of an individual in the name of greed. Thank you for helping him while Mr Rudd and Ms Wong flit around the world blowing out heaps of carbon. I would hate to see him die in the name of the lies of carbon being a pollutant. Australia needs its farmers.

Senator Joyce
You seem to be one of a minority of politicians who represent the voice of the people.
We all hope that in doing this, that the Prime Minister of the day and his team start getting the message that they are to be accaountable to the people of Australia and our time honoured Constitution.
All the checks and balances are in place - we just need to go back to them and use them. But, KRudd and Co. from my view of things are hoping the general public are blatantly ignorant of our constitutional rights and functioning.
This is why we need an opposition that will hold accountability in high regard for the benefit of our country and it's people.
We hope that no harm comes to Peter or anyone else out of this.

I really feel sorry for Mr Spencer. He deserves to get at least the market value for his land. I'm sure Mr Rudd wouldn't dare do this to the Aborigines.

I am disgusted at the Federal Government. Their actions stink of Communism.

I really admire Mr Spencer for his guts, grit and determination in this matter.

I am personally quite sick of all the people with yellow stripes running up their backs, who don't stand up for their own rights, let alone anyone else's. This is the very reason we see perpetrators being treated as victims in today's society, especially if there is money in it!

By now, Mr Spencer's body will be digesting the proteins and fats from his own internal organs in order to survive.

What we need is an enormous mass protest outside Parliament House. Otherwise Mr Spencer is going to die. How about it folks???

Hi Barnaby, just been reading about the farmer Mr Spenser....congratulations on having the interest to actually do something to help him, good on you!

It would be great if Tony Abbott could join with you in helping him in his fight.

At last. Someone standing up for landowners over land theft. I, like thousands of other owners, have had part of my property resumed without compensation or consultation to buy green votes. Take Garrett on please. This is a chance to tell the public what has been going on in the bush. My newspaper colleagues wouldn't have a clue.

Dear Mr. Joyce,
I find your letter very touching. I really hope Mr Spencer has received this message posted on your blog atop of his 300 foot wind tower, and that he comes down very soon... Mr. Rudd better read these messages and start making good decisions.

Thanks for being a compassionate and thoughtful leader. We need more of you.

Well, Australia, you all fell for Rudd's sales pitch well and truly.

He exploited your ignorance and made himself sound like the good guy. Mr Spencer has pulled the wool away from the eyes of some and they are seeing the Labor government for the villains they really are.

How did the environment get to the top of the agenda anyway? Of COURSE we need to look after what we have and exercise responsible stewardship of the land that is ours whilst we're alive on this earth.

Frankly, care of the environment on private land should be the responsibility of the land owner, as guided by public education and environmental awareness. The only legislation that should exist around land care and the environment should be imposed upon corporations and government organisations - it is THEY who own land in the kind of quantities of land that are going to make an impact.

Mr Rudd, start dealing with the issues that SHOULD be within your pervue - defence, immigration, the economy... and getting the state governments, particularly NSW, to be more accountable to the public for responsible government around issues like health and education.

Stop destroying lives and livelihoods. So much for a fair go for working Australians.

If you're at all worried about the legacy you're leaving, you'd better get working and fast, because at the moment the only legacy you're leaving is that you're a Mandarin-speaking Schmuk.

Much the same thing happened to my family farm .We were allowed to clear 50 acres of a 1500 acre farm according to the local vegetation map . After asking for a vegetation map for the Ipswich Bypass and being told that one hadn't been done I realized that farmers were to carry the lifestyle cost of people in the cities and promptly sold the farm. Mr Spencer should come down and sell up because you cannot win against self righteous hyprocrites. Also the price of superfine wool is a joke since the Government interfered.

Mr Spencer's plight is insidious. When will the Australian people wake up and realise they voted in a pro communist government who has just started to railroad over the Australian people just like China does.
Where would the Australian people be now if you and the Liberals had not stood up to them over the tax for carbin omissions that they wanted to hit our people with before Copenhagen.
This is not about the amount that Peter or any other farmer that should be paid, it is about a totalateran government under the influence of China and the UN, flexing it's muscles and the people of Australia are about pay in a big way.
This is against our constitution, when did they have a referendum to change it?

Senator Joyce,

Please keep up the fight for Peter.

I heard your interview on the Grant Goldman radio program. Hopefully between his efforts, yours and people power something can be done about this outragous situation. As also mention Mr Abbott should also get on board there is a ground swell of support for Mr Spencer from not only people in the country but those who live in the city such as myself.

It does seem that anybody who dare to challenge the OZ Governement will meet some difficulties with life, remember what happened to Pauline.....
remember how Pauline warned Australians.

Senator Joyce will be stifled?

Is his leader part of the silencing of the Aussie ?

Fraser and Whitlam and others of opposite teams turned out to be in bed together.... nah! I don't believe you can do anything Senator Joyce your not got the clout YET and most Aussies are buying Chinese now and will be speaking it tomorrow thus do not care about anything and or are scared to act against the Reds..

Peter Spencer will most likely die and Rudd will go free and Senator Joyce's boss will not do anything of worthy note, from the ordinary persons I have spoken to they feel Australia has lost it and the Government does not want to have Peter Spencer alive and at their heels.

Why is it only the Australian farmers who are bring made to pay the price on behalf of everyone else for the Kyoto agreement ???? Mr Rudd MUST address this on behalf of all Australians NOW.
As an Australian Farmer I thank Peter for having what it takes to bring this to the attention of the mass media - I pray that the policy makers and the people of Australia will actually listen to the words that he is saying and take action to protect the freehold land rights of Australian citizens.

Good Lord ...if Australian farmers are to rise to the challenge of increasing production by the required 70% over the next twenty years to support the rising population then our Government MUST stop making every Australian farmer pay the price of the Kyoto agreement . When will the Australian people begin to understand that Australian Farmers are the ones who are caring for the land on a daily basis and are actually growing the renewable green stuff ...they are not the ones abusing the land and rapeing it of it's non renewable fuel and food sources. Mr Rudd MUST also be pressured to answer a few other questions like WHY our Government gives a free reign to Big Multinational Companies to use and abuse the Aquisition of land acts against landowners for their own massive greedy financial gain, whilst tossing a 'one of' non-sustainable pittance as short term compensation to the freehold landowners. All compensation reguarding the taking or tying up of freehold land needs to be far more appropriate and ongoing - paid annually to the freehold landowners and rising with the CPI in order to sustain the ongoing value, care and viability of that land and it's owners financial well being...anything less than this amounts to gross theft of freehold land from the farmers.

Dear Barnaby
Why can Rudd bend over backwards for illegal boat people but not talk to a hard working farmer who's land is rendered useless by a stupid law.
Its a load of bullshit mate please help Peter if Peter dies thru this then i and all my family and friends will hold RUDD AND ALL POLITICIANS REPONSIBLE FOR THIS.

Senator Joyce,

I'm starting to believe you're the only true Australian in Parliament. I used to think we lived in a democracy but now believe Rudd's Socialist dream is to turn the place into China. It's either that or a Fascist Regime Modelled on Hitler or Mussolini.

Please use all your influence to help Peter Spencer

I want to know what more we can do to fix this mess?

If Rudd says he doesn't respond to passive protest does that mean we must organise a revolt to be heard?.

Mr Spencer has tried for two years, legally and sensibly without any result, how can we continue to reward the big overseas industries operating in this country using it's resources and banking the profits offshore, who will feed us if we continue beating up the Australian farmers?.

I want to know what we can do.
# Carolyn Noonan

Tanya Allan states that Rudd doesn't respond to passive protest. Well not unless you're an illegal economic migrant pretending to be a refugee and refusing to leave a Customs Vessel. Tanya quite rightly asks what we can do to help Peter. I can only suggest this. Please all of you who have concern for Peter, write to the PM expressing your concern and your disgust with his apparent lack of concern. We need to storm his mail box with the pleas of concerned and outraged Australians.
Thank you Barnaby for your interest and concern in Peter’s plight please keep up the pressure. None of us want to see Peter die while Mr Rudd sits on his hands and looks the other way when all he has to do is make a phone call. I am thoroughly ashamed that he is our Prime Minister and I think you are too generous when you say he is a good natured person his apparent comtempt for Peter and his inaction brings to mind far different descriptions.

How can we help Mr Spencer who is putting his own body under tremendous strain, prepared to pay the ultimate sacrifice, to gain our attention to what is currently wrong here and now within our incredible country.

Peter Spencer has worked hard and honestly over many long years, but has unfortunately come to the end of his tether and has decided to draw a line in the sand.

He has been unable to gain the attention of our elected government – both current and past politicians have failed to listen, hear and understand not only his plight, but the problems all farmers face each and every day all across Australia.

Mr Joyce you have shown that you are aware that we vote for each government to serve the greater good of our community, not to provide minority groups with a greater say over the majority concerns.

This means our elected politicians are actually supposed to work towards making our collective lives better, not by eroding our rights, not by doubling our taxes because they are incapable and/or incompetent of balancing the government cheque books on our behalf, but by providing us with choices to live as equals in this country.

Our forefathers and current generation continue to fight for our freedoms - freedom of speech – freedom of choice – freedom to live in this great country without fear of government intervention.

Peter Spencer is not asking for much, he just wants to be able to determine his own existence. To be provided adequately with a fit and proper compensation for his own land by our elected government should they ultimately seize it from him and his family.

How can Prime Minister Rudd continue to ignore our voices, please help to stop this injustice immediately. We are actually fed up with being told what we cannot do, we need to know that our government cares. Surely all we want for ourselves and our families is to live in a fair and just Australia!

I do not want to sit idly by and allow a fellow Australian to die whilst we say and do nothing, what else can we do for this gentleman?
