St Patricks Day has grown to something that celebrates not only the connection to the Irish but all Australians searching for a poor excuse for a beer. Some interesting things about St Patrick’s Day that people should know. St Patrick was not Irish, he was a Roman-Britain-born Christian missionary. When he first turned up he didn’t really get on with the Irish. He is like most Australians in our nation - an immigrant with a great desire to make the country he went to a better place. He had a close association with nature and saw God in the world around him.

He obviously was a brilliant theologian and I hate to say it, but I don’t think he drove the snakes out of Ireland, I think the weather did that. St Paddy’s Day is a celebration of the immigrant, the naturalist and the philosopher, the person who asks you to reflect on your life and question what it is all about. It is also a very good excuse to have a beer and for storytelling of outrageous semi-plausible stories.

Normally I can't stand ya mate but the stand you are taking on behalf of Australia regarding Rio-Chinalco,well mate I'll stand with you.Good on you!Someone needs to tell Swan what to do simple, say NO! Besides the board of Rio is mainly non Australian and they couldn't give a stuff about us,just dealing themselves another bonus and bugger the consequences,Realise that if this deal goes ahead then China, not us,will dictacte the price of iron ore .Barnaby it's about iron ore not coal (China has plenty & only buys about 1% from us).Pilbra ore, jobs in the Pilbra;consider the implications where BHP then has to abide by the price set by Rio-Chinalco.....????Be aware that according to the "Australian",Peter Drysdale is dead set sure K.Rudd's in favour. So Barnaby, hammer away!

I watched the interview this evening on 7.30 Report and was appalled at the attitude of Kerry O Brrien.

I agree entirely with your stance on this Chinelco matter. We do not need to sell of the mangement of our resourses to the China government who will immediately begin to exercise their power over pricing and quantities.
As stated by James Baker, I can not see BHP acceoting pricig structures set by the end user.
We should look after our resources as they are valuable assets to this country now and in the future.
I felt that Kerry Obrien was going after you on matters that are not allied to this case. Keep up the pressure. We do not need to sell off our countries assets to a communist controlled country.

Hi Barnaby
You know I love your work, still wish there were more like you in Parliament as you said "someone has to keep the bastards honest" am so glad you are taking a stand over the chinalco matter whats really disturbing is what I have read in the email by Ken Murray...are China & Japan trying to buy up Australia by stealth. I saw that joke about KRUDD having to sell Australia & having a FOR SALE sign made & pointed towards China..Looks like it may become a reality if good folks like your self can't make a difference.
What then, will wel all be " Made in China". I also saw your interview with Kerry O'Brien & must say good on you for standing your ground, I am finding that man more & more annoying, he allows any Labor politician a free run, never asks the hard questions & always allows the easy answers (that's on the very very very rare occassion you can get an answer from a Labour politician)..I have enormous respect for your stance on many issues, they are always well thought out and you put your case very succinctly. Good luck with the Chinalco stance. It would be too sad to think that future generations will live in a country devoid of resources that they can call their own & also not being able to gain employment in the resource sector owing to foreign ownership & jobs that will more than likely be imported/exported to China.
