Liberal National Party (LNP) Senator for Queensland, Barnaby Joyce has said “the hard work begins today as we try to channel the fervour of the weekend into a policy alternative that attracts a majority of votes in Queensland.
“North Queensland will be particularly hard work because of the lack of representation an alternate voice has in the area due to the number of seats Labor holds.
“I, and others from the LNP, look forward to building the party structure in the North so that Far North Queensland has a clear voice in the outcomes that will be delivered in both George St, Brisbane and in Canberra. I now imagine our office in Abbott Street, Cairns is going to become a busy focal point for LNP members of the far north.
“As I have always said, the creation of a new party doesn’t come to a clapping, cheering conclusion when it is formed, its success belies the hard work and consistence of the creation of a culture that allows all the dignity and space to espouse their views in the process of arriving at a policy decision that can be taken to the people of Queensland at the next state and federal elections.
“Queenslanders should be justifiably proud that the formation of this party, which I believe over time will roll out across the nation, started in our state. The key thing to remember always is this party is owned by the members not the politicians and it is those members who will determine how long the party will survive and how well it will prosper.
