“When I was in Sydney there was a sculpture near Circular Quay. It was the usual joke when people would say, ‘What is that?’ and I would reply, ‘To some, it’s an immortalised, oversized dog turd but to others, it’s art’. Regardless, it was a matter of opinion and art or otherwise it did not hurt anybody.

“The issue of full frontal child nudity masquerading as art is something different. This is something to be abhorred, rejected, confronted and removed immediately.

"The matter of Art Monthly Australia magazine choosing to put on its front cover a nude picture of a child is wrong and extreme and this is why - these sexualised pictures will unquestionably be used as a mechanism of sexual gratification by men who display paedophilic tendencies.

“It is the actual and specific representation of a person who was fully aware their photo was being taken and yet is a child, not yet of the capacity to fully comprehend the purposes for which that photo may be used by some people who are, for want of a better word, creeps.

“It is the blurring of the line between predatory exploitation and the so-called ‘art argument’ and, in a time where we continually amaze ourselves at where paedophiles exist in our community, this is a line which should not be blurred but should be absolutely resolute.

“When men achieve a form of sexual gratification of their voyeuristic tendencies over pictures like these, it acts as a mechanism to incite the further gratification of those tendencies. The symptomatic behaviour of a paedophile indicates that this is a condition which develops over time and is not immediate.

"This argument will come back from the other direction immediately, with questions of ‘what about this form of photograph or that form of photograph?’ The unfortunate reply will be, ‘Well some of those photographs are innocuous, but the disgusting realty of the world today is that we must now rule them out as being on the wrong side of the line as well.' If we don’t do this the line just continues to move until everything is excused as acceptable, including the psychological, emotional and physical trauma that is brought upon the children who are part of it.

“If the Prime Minister is serious about dealing with this issue, then he must receive 100% support."

Ends.
