Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce today stated the move to allow online gamblers access to the POLi funds transfer service, a service which allows gamblers to transfer money from their savings account without any registration process, is a bad move in the gambling saturated market.
"The capacity for someone to take their savings and waste it on a bad bet brings more pain to those who can least afford it.
"At least when you go to the horse races, there is a start and a finish and your ability to lose comes to a conclusion when the race meeting ends. But to sit on the internet and transfer your savings, and then possibly your partner's, into the oblivion of online gambling is something that should not be encouraged, and this is what is provided with the POLi funds transfer."
Senator Joyce said he would be talking to like minded Senators such as newly elected Senator Nick Xenophon from South Australia on ways this issue could be addressed.
