Queensland Nationals Senator, Barnaby Joyce, was earlier today in Cairns and was very pleased with the announcement that QANTAS will change its flight path and cease flying its planes over the Esplanade from Monday 10 September 2007.
“My office on Sheridan Street has received numerous calls from concerned residents regarding excessive aircraft noise along the Esplanade. I have been working closely with Ian Crossland, Nationals candidate for Leichhardt, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Regional Services, Mark Vaile and QANTAS.
“This is an excellent outcome for both local residents and tourists alike.
“It is important to allow the constant flow of tourists into Cairns to continue while taking into consideration the effect of aircraft noise upon the community.
“I look forward to returning to Cairns later this month and enjoying a quieter, more tranquil Esplanade” Senator Joyce said.
