Senator Joyce today welcomed the findings from the Hunter Medical Research Institute with their breakthrough results using adult stem cell technology in the treatment of heart conditions.

“Once more, this has demonstrated the utilisation of research dollars for adult stem cell technology is effective and provides results.

“This poses the question – are we compromising further breakthroughs and real cures by investment in embryonic stem cell technology, technology which has yet to provide verifiable results in Australia?

“The embryonic stem cell cause always puts forward a range a potential cures yet the lack in delivery of results from embryonic stem cell trials might suggest they are following an avenue of false hope.

“The opportunity cost of the money invested in embryonic stem cell technology is the real cures we are seeing from adult stem cell technology.” Senator Joyce said.
