Queensland Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce has welcomed a grass roots grower revolt against the forces of deregulation within their wheat industry.
His comments follow recent votes of no confidence in the chairman of the GCA, Murray Jones and its Chief Operating Officer, David Ginns.
Last week Central Queensland growers, at their regional AgForce conference, passed a unanimous vote of no confidence in Mr Jones and Mr Ginns.
Today, Western Australian Farmers (WAFF) General Section also unanimously passed a similar motion.
"The recent sacking of pro-deregulation directors from the board of WA's CBH Group and the election of five pro-single desk growers to the South Australian Farmers Federation Grains Section shows there is a grass roots grower revolt against those acting against growers' wishes to retain the single desk for wheat exports from Australia.
"The National Party has been fighting in Canberra to retain single desk marketing of Australian wheat in growers' control.
"As one of many Nationals politicians fighting for this cause, it is heartening to see grass roots growers speaking up strongly at this crucial time in the debate," Senator Joyce said.
"I note with interest media reports today of secret discussions by the GCA and a number of other parties who think we are not onto their plans to deregulate the bulk export wheat industry.
"Grass roots growers know how crucial the single desk is in combating the corrupt world grain market where EU and US subsidies distort prices."
